Cleaning Pros: Makita 40V max XGT Telescoping Polisher/Scrubber

Makita 40V max XGT Scrubber/Polisher Handles Cleaning and Shining Tasks with Ease

In recent years, several cordless power scrubbers have entered the market, but most of them have targeted homeowners and DIYers. Makita’s 40V Telescoping Polisher/Scrubber focuses instead on the needs of professional and commercial cleaners. Does it have the cleaning chops needed for extreme scrubbing and polishing jobs? I’ll show you what it brings to the table compared to similar tools.

  • Model: Makita GSP01

  • 3 speed modes
  • Runtime: 3.5 hours (low), 48 minutes (high)

The Makita GSP01 features a brushless motor powered by a 40V max XGT 4.0Ah battery. It reaches top brush head speeds of 650 RPM, with three speed modes to set your speed to the application.

  • Low: 150 RPM
  • Medium: 350 RPM

Makita tells us this model’s top speed is up to 60% faster than the competition, the MotorScrubber Jet3 power scrubber, which achieves up to 360 RPM.

Using a 4.0Ah battery, the Makita GSP01 delivers runtimes of up to 3.5 hours on low, or 48 minutes on high.

Makita 40V max XGT Polisher/Scrubber Design

  • Weight: 10.3 lbs (with 4.0Ah battery)
  • Auxiliary handle
  • Telescoping design expands to 56.5 inches
  • Max reach: 14 feet
  • Spring-loaded splash guard
  • Flexible scrubber/polisher head

Like many power scrubbers, the GSP01 has an auxiliary handle to give you more stability and control. This is a useful feature, considering the scrubber head can be adjusted to any angle and has an impressive reach. You can set the scrubber head between a fixed mode and a free-moving mode to match whichever one makes it easier to clean your target area.

The telescoping feature is convenient for at-height or on-the-ground jobs. The handle expands to a maximum length of 56.5 inches, providing a reach of up to 14 feet, depending on your height.

Wrapping up the design notes, Makita included a spring-loaded splash guard that wraps around the border of the scrubber head to prevent water or cleaning chemicals from splashing during use. Also protected is the battery slot, which is housed in a waterproof cover.

Attachments

This scrubber includes several color-coded brushes and polishing pad attachments to help you set the accessory to the application. You get a teal medium-bristle cleaning brush, a white fine-grit floor pad, a red fine-medium-grit floor pad, and a blue medium-grit floor pad.

The floor pads attach via a hook-and-loop system, and the brush attachment clips directly into the power head. Makita also offers these attachments and other compatible accessories individually, so you can stay stocked up.

Makita 40V max XGT Polisher/Scrubber Price

This tool is available as a kit for $999, including a 4.0Ah battery, rapid charger, and several brush attachments. There are currently no bare tool configurations. Makita backs your purchase with a 3-year warranty on the tool, battery, and charger.

Should You Buy It?

Makita is the first major Pro-targeted brand to introduce a telescoping power scrubber, and they went all out. Its high brush speeds and multiple attachments make it a really versatile cleaning machine. If you’re after something for medium to heavy-duty industrial cleaning jobs, the Makita GSP01 will get it done.

However, like most specialized equipment, it comes with a price premium, sitting at just under $1000 for the kit. If you’re a homeowner who needs something for occasional tough cleaning, there are value-oriented power scrubbers on the market from brands like Ryobi that may be better suited for those jobs.
