It’s Business In The Front, And Dust In The Vac With The Mullet Cyclonic Dust Collector

As technology develops, we’re seeing more and more dust extractors and shop-based vacuums are employing cyclonic designs to improve the efficiency and increase filter life. However, this progress often comes with a hefty price tag and, if your current shop vac is still functional, you may not want to replace it. Well, the folks over at Mullet have introduced the M5 Cyclonic Dust Collector, which claims to improve any shop vac’s effectiveness with a few simple steps.

Mullet Cyclonic Dust Collect: Setup Guide

Mullet Cyclonic Dust Collector

One thing I really love is when a tool is ready to go, right out of the box. Well…this ain’t it—but set up is fast and easy, I promise!

Start by removing the collection chamber and installing the four threaded caster wheels, if you intend for it to be mobile. Next, ensure the lid is secure and begin to affix one of the hose adapters to your vacuum of choice. Mullet includes an optional self-tapping screw if you want the adapter to remain on the vacuum permanently.

Insert the black plastic “T” adapter into your vacuum and make sure the indicator arrow is pointing up. Tighten down the hose adapter set screw until snug.

On a flat surface, bring your vacuum alongside the dust collector and place the included alignment sticker on to the black PVC pipe so that the arrows are in sync. This is your cutting guide for the next step.

Remove the retaining bolt from the base of the black PVC pipe and remove the pipe. From here, just make a clean cut along the designated lines, reassemble the pipe with the “T” adapter, and reinstall the bottom retaining bolt.

Now, your Mullet cyclonic dust collector should align perfectly with your shop vac. If you’re a little off, don’t freak. Just go back and adjust the adapter or trim off additional PVC if needed.

Lastly, make sure all of your set screws are nice and snug and install the last hose adapter on the top inlet pipe. Again, if this is a permanent fixture for your shop, Mullet includes a small self-tapping screw to ensure a secure fit.

That’s it!

Using The Mullet Cyclonic Dust Collector

Once you’re all set up, simply connect your vacuum hose to the top adapter, and you’re ready to go. The Mullet M5 hold up to 5 gallons of wet or dry material, and the one-piece molded body is easy to empty.

Simply remove the hose and disconnect the M5 from your vacuum. Remove the clear plastic lid and dump the contents. Before hooking everything back up, it’s a good idea to double-check that there’s no debris clogging up the neck area and that the lid’s O-ring is clean so that it will seat properly.

Pro Tip: Add a little water to the M5 collector to cut down on airborne dust and particulates.
