Ergalilektriphobia, and How Not to Play Hide and Seek

Hide-and-seek is a fun game… just don’t hide in a washing machine… you might have to experience one of the most unconventional uses of a circular cut-off saw… and lots of screaming. A Chinese youngster was playing hide and seek with his Mom (of all people) and recently became trapped inside a washing machine. Apparently, his legs got caught in the drum and only his head was sticking out. The child, Chaofan, had to be rescued by a team of circular saw-wielding firefighters. Not the most fun way to spend your day, but what a story he’ll have to tell when he goes back to school.

So how do you rescue a child stuck in a washer? Well, judging by what we’ve seen and heard, first you start by dismantling the machine. Then, after realizing that all that did was remove some sheet metal panels, you pull out your trusty circular saw, cut open the drum and give the kid a massive case of ergalilektriphobia (fear of power tools). The boy was apparently trapped for between one and two hours. Culminated by the sound and vibration of a power circular (cut-off) saw slicing its way through the drum, and I wouldn’t wonder if the kid doesn’t grow up to live on a mountaintop in the Himalayan.

We’re just glad nobody recommended using a reciprocating saw – or this story would have been a lot more dramatic.
