Ryobi PSBDG01 18V Compact Brushless Right Angle Die Grinder

Ryobi Claims Brushless Die Grinder Pumps Out More Power Than Pneumatic

The Ryobi 18V ONE+ HP Compact Brushless 1/4″ Right Angle Die Grinder (PSBDG01) promises a convenient cordless alternative to a pneumatic tool. What’s more, Ryobi tells us that this cordless alternative actually has twice the power as the die grinder that’s tied to an air hose.

Ryobi Brushless Die Grinder Overview

The main feature of the Ryobi ONE+ HP die grinder is the brushless motor. Combined with the advanced electronics and lithium-ion battery power, this brushless motor can crank out 2x more power than the pneumatic that you might already be using.

In terms of what that actually looks like, Ryobi claims that the brushless motor operates at up to 22,000 RPM. If this sounds like it could be unwieldy for some applications, don’t worry. This die grinder not only features a variable speed paddle switch but also has 4 different modes for controlling speed.

Additional Features

  • On-board spindle lock for quick and easy accessory changes
  • LED worklight keeps work illuminated in even dim conditions

What We Think of the Ryobi PSBDG01

This is the first cordless die grinder we’ve seen from Ryobi, so this feels like a big deal for the brand. The right-angle design accommodates the Ryobi stick pack design. While that sounds like it might bulk up the tool, it actually offers a rather unique ergonomic solution. The surprisingly compact design ought to make it easier to work in tight corners. Overall, we love these tools for ditching the hose and increasing maneuverability.

When the Ryobi Brushless Right Angle Die Grinder becomes available in August, you’ll be able to find it exclusively at Home Depot. It will come as a bare tool and will retail for $149. It also comes with Ryobi’s 3-year warranty for some added peace of mind.

As for getting into tight spaces, the motor head appears to be bigger than the 2″ Roloc that it is shown with. The head looks even bigger than the 12 volt Milwaukee, that does not quite clear the 2″ disc, either. Air grinders with the motor in the handle and rt. angle gear drive give you a much smaller head. At least it should be less under powered than the Milwaukee. I was hoping that when somebody came out with an 18 volt model it would have enough power for a gear driven rt. angle head.If this is twice as… Read more »
