Festool Conturo KA 65 Edge Bander Announced

Festool Conturo

Not every woodworking job is blessed to be done with solid wood. Not every desk, cabinet, and table made with particle board is blessed to have straight edges. Woodworking shops, however, will feel blessed now that the Festool Conturo KA 65 Edge Bander is on the horizon.

Banding is an incredibly important aspect of working with particle board-esque materials. Without the banding, people wouldn’t want to purchase the products thanks to it’s unsightly finish. Let’s take a closer look at the Festool Conturo hand held, portable banding system.

Adhesive is applied using Festool’s advanced electronically controlled system. It can be adjusted to consistently deliver the correct amount of adhesive from the glue pucks. Since only what is needed gets heated, there is little risk of different adhesive colors mixing or becoming discolored. The display will even let you know how much banding can be applied with the glue that remains. The Festool Conturo takes 8 – 10 minutes to warm up from a completely cooled state. A variety of glue puck colors are available.

One of the most impressive features of the KA 65 is its ability to easily band curves. The Festool Conturo can band an inside curve radius as small as 2 inches. Working with sharper inside edges? The Conturo can do inside corners as well. Outside radii and curves are no problem at all.

“The CONTURO will change the way many professionals edge their workpieces, freeing them up to take the machine to the workpiece, instead of the other way around—but without the difficulties related to more traditional glue-pot systems, such as time to temperature, cleanup and potential burning hazards,” said Steve Rangoussis, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Festool USA. “This new tool is extremely mobile and delivers perfect edge quality whether working on straight runs or more complex curves. Woodworking professionals can literally use the CONTURO anywhere they need to go, whether in the workshop or on the jobsite.”
