Can anything good come out of Walmart? Skil seems to think so. Beginning in May they will release their new corded oscillating multi-tool, dubbed the Skil Multi-Tasker. It’s a 2-amp tool that works with the new Bosch OIS system accessories. The SKIL Oscillating Multi-Tasker 1400-02 comes as part of an 11-piece multi-tool kit that is meant to be a go-to or catch-all tool for home improvement professionals as well as the casual user or do-it-yourselfer. All-in-all, Skil has positioned the tool at a price point and in a configuration that makes it very palatable and desirable for those who still haven’t jumped into the corded oscillating multi-tool revolution. If you haven’t yet used an oscillating multi-tool, this product may just sell you on its benefits.
Skil Oscillating Multi-tasker Tool Features
The tool includes the expected red/black stylings of Skil’s trademark colors, and has a no-mar head to protect furniture, walls, and workpieces from scratches when in use. An integrated dust extraction port means that, unlike most other multi-tools in this price range, dust collection is facilitated in a great way with the use of a shop vac. The presence of rubber overmold across the lower handle area and top of the tool gives it a soft-grip and makes it comfortable to use.
As we mentioned previously, the SKIL Multi-Tasker uses the Bosch OIS (Oscillating Interface System), a 12-pin interface that provides a solid fit for accessories – transferring the maximum energy from the tool to the blade, scraper, or sanding pad. There is also an included adapter to allow users to take their existing (non-OIS) multi-tool blades to fit onto the Multi-Tasker.
The 1400-02 comes with the following OIS accessories in addition to the sanding pad and included sanding sheets:
- Wood/Metal Plunge Sawblade (#84558): a 1-1/8″ plunge-cut blade
- Wood/Drywall Segment Sawblade (#84568): 3″ blade
- Wood Flush Cut Sawblade (#84574): 2-1/2″ blade
