Klein Tools introduces the Klein ET130 Digital Light Meter, a simple-to-use precision light meter that can be operated using one hand. Targeting consultants, inspectors, facility & maintenance workers, and DIYers, this meter uses a photodiode sensor and spectral response filter to ensure that light levels in offices, homes, and schools comply with OSHA standards. The new Klein Digital Light Meter monitors illuminance levels in foot candles (FC) and Lux and can be used to verify that fire alarms, CCTV, and exit signs are compliant.
The Word From Klein
“Tradespeople need to be able to compare light levels from old and new sources, or check that emergency signs meet standards. This important work requires an easy-to-use, precise light meter to get the job done right. Our ET130 light meter’s one-handed design and included carrying pouch make it a convenient tool to have on the job.”

The Klein Digital Light Meter
Klein designed the ET130 to be easy to use. Featuring one-handed operation, this light meter doesn’t overwhelm the user with an overabundance of buttons or controls. A backlit, digital LCD screen, including a 40-segment bar graph, makes the measurements viewable even in low light situations. It includes Hold and Max/Min buttons to hold the current readings on display while capturing maximum and minimum values. A Range/FC/Lux button toggles between units and ranges.
The Klein Digital Light Meter has a spectral range of 400-760 nm by white light CIE standard. It measures a range between 0-4,000 FC, or 0-40,000 Lux. It also takes measurements at a sample rate of 2 times per second, and with a repeatability rating of +/- 3%.
This unit automatically powers off after 15 minutes to conserve battery life, and features drop protection from 3.3 feet. The Klein Digital Light Meter comes with a 9V battery as well as a custom carrying pouch for added convenience.
As OSHA has established guidelines for safe lighting conditions (minimum lighting requirements for working areas, lighting outlets and controls, artificial light safety, emergency lighting, etc.), the quality of light in your burgeoning project is good information to be certain about. A good light meter can help you get your project up to code before an inspector comes in to “drop the hammer” down on you. If your work requires a light meter, the Klein Digital Light Meter feels like a simple and accurate option to help you carry out that task.
