Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

Klein IR5 Dual-Laser Infrared Thermometer

Klein IR5 Infrared Thermometer

Klein Tools has a new infrared thermometer rolling out with an eye on value without giving up the accuracy of a dual laser system. The Klein IR5 features a 12:1 distance to spot ratio, keeping it in line with the kind of distances and spaces electricians tend to work in. The measurement range runs between -22 and 752 degrees Fahrenheit to cover the vast majority of problem areas you’ll run in to.

Several calculation modes are integrated into the thermometer’s software. These include maximum temperature, average temperature, temperature difference, and minimum temperature measured.

User comfort considerations include a backlight and soft touch overmold. The Klein IR5 has been drop tested to 6.6 feet (2 meters) onto concrete and steel.

The IR5 uses a single 9-volt battery that will stand up to roughly 10 hours of continuous use, including keeping the backlight on. Most importantly to the new electrician or electrical tradesman is the price point. You’ll find Klein’s new entry level IR thermometer at retail stores in the $50 to $55 range, making about as affordable as some of your hand tools.

“Dual-laser targeting technology makes it easier to visualize the area being measured by an IR thermometer, resulting in more accurate measurement performance versus a single laser. As an added value, Klein Tools is able to offer this dual-laser functionality at a price point that is in line with an IR thermometer that uses a single laser.”
