History and Introduction
I got the chance to check out the Segway Navimow X3 series of robotic mowers at a press event in Paris, France. Navimow dates back to the debut of the H series in 2022, when they sold just 3,000 units. The Navimow X3 is their third major design and represents the company’s flagship effort to transform lawn maintenance into a hands-free, intelligent experience. Segway tailored the X3 for homeowners and property managers with lawns and estates up to 2.5 acres.
The X3 Series uses both advanced AI and satellite-based RTK to provide precise mapping, control, and obstacle avoidance. Segway’s goal with the X3 Series is to maintain pristine lawns with minimal user effort. It handles complex layouts and various terrains—and does it all autonomously. I’ve used over half a dozen robotic mowers over the years and have lots of experience setting them up and testing them in various conditions. In this review, I wanted to see whether Segway’s Navimow X3 met my personal goals for convenience, flexibility, and precision.
What Differentiates the Segway Navimow X3 from Other Robotic Mowers
Until recently, robotic mowers have relied upon buried wires to control their boundary area. Newer models use either vision technology or satellite guidance (called RTK). The Segway Navimow X3 operates using a combination of both. AI-assisted 3D cameras let it map the space and avoid obstacles, while satellite positioning via RTK allows for precise navigation. Even better, the integrated AI lets the X3 define virtual boundaries using the Navimow app in just minutes. Put it all together, and the Navimow X3 can navigate narrow passages and utilize complex zones while avoiding pets and obstacles or missing out-of-the-way areas.
The Technology Under the Hood of the Navimow X3
Connectivity
Segway knew that connectivity would be a major concern for the Navimow. To solve the issue of connecting users, the app, satellites, and the mower, they employed a combination of WiFi, 4G, and Bluetooth. This unites the mower, app, and RTK system with the user so that you never lose connectivity, and the Navimow has every opportunity to utilize all of its technology for navigation, mowing, and obstacle avoidance. Each Segway mower is paired specifically with its antenna.
EFLS 3.0 Navigation System
To expand on RTK, the Exact Fusion Location System (EFLS) 3.0 integrates Real-Time Kinematic positioning, VSLAM (Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping), and VIO (Visual Inertial Odometry). This trio of technologies combines improved satellite observation with precise navigation. This means that the mower maintains course and mapping, even in weak-signal areas like underneath trees. The system lets the Segway Navimow X3 create a map and then mow to that map with a high level of accuracy (less than a decimeter).
VisionFence 2.0 Obstacle Avoidance
Aside from just mapping and navigation, obstacle avoidance presents a major need and challenge for robotic lawnmowers. VisionFence 2.0 uses a 300-degree wide-angle camera to enhance safety by detecting over 200 types of obstacles. That includes pets, toys, furniture…and anything else you might find (or have left) in the yard. The system slows the mower down to just 0.65 fps when approaching people at a distance of around 10 feet. When avoiding animals, it can recalculate a path in just milliseconds. Night vision extends to around 6 feet with a 150-degree field of view for safe operation after the sun goes down.
Smart App and Voice Control
The Navimow app simplifies setup by letting you drive the mower around your yard to create boundaries for each Zone. You can connect those Zones using “Tunnels” and you can add multiple Zones so that you have total freedom of scheduling and movement for your mower to accomplish the task of cutting even sprawling, complex properties. We set up four zones for our testing with three connecting “tunnels” to link everything together.
Other Segway Navimow X3 Features
Color LED Display
A color LED display gives helpful feedback on mode and errors as the Segway Navimow navigates its various tasks, connection routines, and charging.
IP66 Rated
An IP66 waterproof and dustproof rating means that the Segway Navimow X3 can hold up to most wet and/or dusty environments. Unlike other, more sensitive systems, it’s also quick and easy to clean with a hose.
Weather Adaptive
A weather-adaptive system utilizes real-time forecasts to preemptively pause mowing routes and return the X3 to its charging dock. This helps protect the mower from rain, snow, frost, high temperatures, or severe storms.
Ultra-Fast Charging and Long Runtime
The Navimow X3 charges twice as fast as the industry average, minimizing downtime. The X350 model, for example, offers up to 200 minutes of runtime for covering up to 0.3 acres per session. It recharges in just 80 minutes. If you need to conquer a specific space quickly, 30 minutes of charging can get you up to 5,380 additional square feet of mowing. This charging efficiency works well for larger properties up to 2.5 acres (using the X390) without endless recharges.
Animal-Friendly Mode
Segway designed software that lets the X3 identify over 24 animal types. This includes dogs, cats, and even hedgehogs. In Animal-Friendly Mode, the mower pauses or reroutes instantly, maintaining a safe distance from your pets.
Six-Blade Anti-Clogging Design
The Segway Navimow X3’s upgraded six-blade system cuts grass twice per pass for less missed blades and a more even mow. An anti-clogging disc prevents grass buildup—helpful when dealing with wet or thick grass—and reduces maintenance.
Security Features
Navimow includes four advanced security features. You get an outside-of-boundary alarm, a lift alert, GPS tracking via the Navimow app, and a secret compartment for storing an Airtag or similar tracker.
27° Slope Max Climbing Capability
The Traction Control System (TCS) on the X3 lets it tackle slopes of up to 27°. The system precisely controls the traction of the 10-inch wheels. This prevents slipping during acceleration—particularly when operating on low-traction surfaces.
Doodle Shapes and Logos in Your Yard!!!
One remarkably fun feature of the Segway Navimow X3 is Doodle. You can create a custom design in your lawn using the app. That means you can create custom messages to celebrate birthdays or holidays. You can even carve a logo into your yard—just upload it to the app.

Segway Navimow X3 Performance Testing
Testing the Segway Navimow X390 on a multi-acre property with four distinct mowing zones and three “tunnels” revealed its strengths and adaptability. The setup was straightforward. Using the app, I mapped the virtual boundary zones and the connecting tunnels in less than 30 minutes. The X390 navigated seamlessly between zones, handling a narrow pathway and some minor slopes without slipping. Its Traction Control System worked well on patches of dirt and even wet grass. Its six-blade system delivered a uniform cut, though initial passes left minor uneven spots that improved after subsequent cuts as the AI refined its patterns.
The mower operates quietly at 60 dB, barely noticeable from indoors. Rain sensors paused mowing during showers, resuming once conditions cleared. It also has settings for snow, hot weather, frost, and strong winds. Its obstacle avoidance is impressive. It dodged toys, garden beds, and small (supervised!) children with ease. On a full charge, it covered our central zone—over 3,300 square feet—using just 16% of the battery.
In our second test, we opened it up to our whole four-zone space. It began in a new area and completed 43% of the total job (6,131 square feet) before having to recharge for a couple of hours. The main difference between the two tests was that the starting point for the second attempt included a hillier area with much thicker grass. If your grass is thick or long, it may take a couple of cuts before the Segway Navimow fully manages all of the grass. Additionally, make sure you have the Navimow mow your grass regularly in the rainy season when the grass tends to grow quickly.
