Werner’s ATS-72 6-Foot Aluminum Telescoping Scaffold aims to be the middle ground, combining a rolling scaffold platform with a compact, foldable design. I’m taking a closer look at what this scaffold has to offer to give you a better idea of who it’s a good fit for.
Werner ATS-72 Telescoping Scaffold Conveniently Goes Wherever You Need it To
The Werner ATS-72 Telescoping Scaffold offers a different approach to working at height indoors, combining design elements from traditional scaffolding, extension ladders, and work platforms into one convenient package. Instead of stacking sections to build upwards and reach taller heights like with traditional scaffolding, it can easily telescope to a platform height of up to 6 feet 6 inches.
It adjusts between five height positions:
- 3 feet 7 inches
- 4 feet 3 inches
- 5 feet 1 inch
- 5 feet 8 inches
- 6 feet 6 inches
At the highest point, Werner says you get a reach of around 13 feet, but this varies based on your height and arm length. In any case, you have a variety of height options for wall, ceiling, and above-ceiling work.
However, it also fully collapses down to just 46 inches tall to transport it through buildings and store it compactly in your work vehicle or out of the way on the jobsite. This is a huge benefit for tradesmen who usually rely on ladders or platforms for interior work, especially since traditional scaffolding is so challenging to use indoors. While fully collapsed, it easily fits through standard doorways and onto elevators.
Like many scaffolds, it also has lockable caster wheels to easily move it between work areas.
Werner rates it for single-person use, with a weight capacity of up to 500 pounds. For most people, this offers plenty of weight clearance to keep your tools, accessories, and gear on the platform with you. While Werner doesn’t provide the exact dimensions of the platform, they do tell us that the unit is approximately 78 inches in length and 32 inches wide, giving you room to roam while you’re working off the ground.
For at-height safety, the Werner ATS-72 features a non-slip platform and a 39-inch guardrail to stabilize you as you work. A toe board also prevents your feet from stepping over the edge while you’re working on the platform. For additional stability, there are four adjustable outriggers (one for each caster wheel) to stabilize the unit to the floor as you work.

Should You Buy It?
At almost $2,300, the Werner Telescoping Scaffold is definitely an investment geared toward professionals. If you’re a commercial painter, HVAC technician, electrician, or another trade that routinely works at height indoors, its mobility and versatility make it a much more convenient option than traditional scaffolding or ladders.
On the other hand, the price and specialized design of this unit aren’t likely to fit the needs of occasional users or DIYers who only need elevated access from time to time. If you’re a contractor who spends enough time working at height to take advantage of its capabilities, the ATS-72 scaffold could be a worthwhile addition to the jobsite.
