Bosch Stop Bits for Concrete

Some jobs involve a lot of concrete drilling, particularly for Tapcon concrete screws or other anchor installations. If you’ve got to drill a ton of holes, Bosch Stop Bits make the job easier by setting the depth for you. That gives you the correct depth every time. It removes any guesswork or jerry-rigged solutions to modify your existing bits. In fact, the bits make the standard depth gauges found in products like Bosch’s RHH180 18V Rotary Hammer Drill almost obsolete.

In critical masonry applications like hanging of struts for A/C (mechanical), running electrical conduit, and installing overhead sprinkler systems, Bosch’s new Stop Bits work really well. The new bits are designed to bring rapid precision to jobs that involve lots of depth-specific drilling. A natural consequence of such precision is increased speed. In this market – that means more money. Instead of taping up your drill bit, you can literally pound away with a Stop Bit.

Bosch Stop Bits Features

The way the new Stop Bits work is simple. A new permanently-affixed steel collar is present on each bit. It sets the exact depth to which the bit will drill—essentially setting the limit for the hole. So you drill. And when the collar is flush with the concrete surface, you’re done. The correct depth has been attained. So what about different sizes and depths of Tapcon bits or other masonry anchors?

Bosch seems to have thought this through pretty well. They offer five different carbide-tipped steel bits in three different sizes: 3/8″, 1/2″, and 5/8″. Depths vary from 13/16″ all the way to 2-1/16″. With these, the new Bosch Stop Bits fully work with over 80% of all drop-in anchors.

This is a great idea, not only for the speed improvements we noted earlier but also for job precision. You use less time drilling holes too deep—or not deep enough. You end up with a more consistent job overall. The depth stops even prevent you from common issues like running your bits right into hidden rebar.

Since these bits are designed for SDS-Plus rotary hammers, don’t expect to just slap one in your hammer drill. They are meant for serious users who do a lot of this type of work, and rightly so in our opinion. We love innovation, and Bosch’s Stop Bits make a whole lot of sense.
