Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

Sander and Grinder Reviews

We do reviews of corded grinders and sanders, including belt and orbital models and also portable and bench top tools. Our grinder reviews include corded tools from 4.5″ cut off models to larger products with 9-inch wheels. For sanders, we cover products from the small Festool Rotex sander to larger belt and orbital sanders. We turned our Pros on the Makita GA5042C 5 in. grinder and also the Bosch OS50VC 1/2-sheet orbital finishing sander. The results gave us good impressions of what these tools could do in the field. Sanders and Grinder Reviews In comparing various sanders we attempt to level the playing field by using the same consumables. For grinder reviews we use the same grinding and cutting wheels. Random orbital patterns vary, and grinders have various features like active and passive braking for better safety. We test our grinders using proven methods and time cutting and grinding tasks to see which models excel. Even drywall sanders make for interesting testing.

Festool LS 130 Linear Sander

Festool LS 130 Linear Sander Review

I love my job, but I don’t enjoy sanding. It’s time-consuming, messy, and all-around boring. Detail sanding is even worse. Getting into corners, sanding curved millwork and profiles, and cleaning up edges requires hand-sanding. I find hand-sanding tedious. Not only is it slow, but it tends to leave more dust lying around since there is […]

Bosch 5-Inch Angle Grinder with Tuckpointing Guard

Bosch 5-Inch Angle Grinder with Tuckpointing Guard

Most people consider the expression “set in stone” to mean something is permanent or immovable. But the masons among us might have a different perspective since we spend much of our time repairing things that have been set in stone! Brickwork is a common example. Those mortar joints deteriorate, make a wall unsightly, and allow bricks […]

One of the uglier bits of construction and remodeling work revolves around drywall installation. Sanding down drywall mud not only creates a big mess, but it also launches all sorts of dust into the air – even silica dust in some cases. For those of you who have the distinct pleasure of sanding down drywall, […]

Cutting in-place soil pipes might be an unpleasant job but it doesn’t have to be difficult. All of these methods work, other things being equal, but soil pipe access might eliminate some of them. Festool RTS 400 REQ Orbital Finish Sander

Festool RTS 400 REQ Orbital Finish Sander Review

When we visited Festool in Germany last year, we got to see the Festool RTS 400 REQ Orbital Finish Sander in action months before its North American launch. It’s a rolling change from the previous model – the Festool RTS 400 EQ – which was a phenomenal sander in its own right. Clint DeBoer and […]
