Craftsman Cordless Router Performance

Craftsman Cordless Router
  • No-Load Speed: 16000-30000 RPM
  • Speed Modes: 7
  • Collet: 1/4 in.
  • Motor: Brushless

The Craftsman 20V cordless router features a brushless motor and seven speed setting, ranging from 16,000 up to 30,000 RPM. That kind of speed puts it right in line with some of the more premium models we’ve tested. It has more than enough power to handle most routing tasks in low to medium-density woods, and even cured resins and MDF.

This router displayed truly confident power when we put it to the test here at our shop. We alternated between a large classic round-over, dovetail, and edge trimming bits and felt very little resistance from the tool.

Kicking things up a notch, we chucked up a 1/2-inch rabbet bit to see how it would handle a high-demand cut. Compared to other compact models we’ve tested, the Craftsman CMCW400 did well and didn’t bog down under load.

The Bottom Line

The Craftsman 20V cordless router is a compact, easy-to-use option for your light to medium-duty routing jobs. Throughout our testing, we found it can handle more high demand routing tasks better than many of the other DIY-focused models. While it doesn’t have as much power as Craftsman’s full-sized corded model, it’s still a great option for serious DIYers, woodworking hobbyists, and entry-level Pros.
