Cutting Power

One of the highlights of this model is its 16-inch cutting swath. Greenworks has another 60V 13-Inch string trimmer, but having that wider clearing path makes the job that much quicker.

Greenworks 60V String Trimmer

The industry standard for electric string trimmers for residential models is usually 0.080 line, but this trimmer jumps up to 0.095-inch line. That’s a big deal when it comes to knocking down thick overgrowth and maintaining RPMs. Greenworks offers performance levels equivalent to a 30cc gas engine.

Vibration

One of my biggest gripes when it comes to battery-powered string trimmers is excessive vibration. Greenworks did a excellent job of keeping the vibration to a minimum so you can work longer without excessive hand fatigue.

Size and Weight

This string trimmer measures 70 inches from tip to tail and weighs in at a very reasonable 9.9 pounds. Thanks to that lightweight carbon fiber shaft, it’s noticeably lighter than many of the aluminum shafted models I’ve tested. Greenworks also included a lanyard loop so you can attach a shoulder strap for extended use.

Overall, it has a really nice balance. During our testing, I found it was very easy to maneuver around landscaping features and uneven terrain.

Speed Controls

Along with the variable speed trigger, Greenworks includes two speed settings. Toggling between speeds is easy thanks to the handy thumb switch. In the Low setting, I was able to take down the majority of grass and weeds around our office without burning through too much battery power. When you need an extra power boost to get through the thicker growth and edging, kicking it into High gear will keep you moving.

Load N’ Go Trimmer Head

One of the highlights of this string trimmer is the Load N’ Go trimmer head. To reload, start by lining up the indicator arrows on the head.

Once you line up the arrows on the head, the inserts of the outer casings match up with the inserts on the inner spool. Run the length of your line to the center and turn the bottom section to ratchet it in. From there, it’s your typical bump feed trimmer head. The head hold about 18 feet of 0.095 line.

Additional Features

  • Compatible with all Greenworks 60V batteries

Greenworks 60V Carbon Fiber String Trimmer Price

This carbon fiber string trimmer retails for $248.99 as a kit that includes a 2.5Ah battery and charger. Greenworks backs it with a 4-year warranty on the tool and battery.

If price is a contributing factor is your decision-making process, Greenworks does offer an aluminum shaft model that hits a slightly lower price point and performance level. This model retails for $198 as a kit.

The Bottom Line

Factoring in the performance, ergonomics, features, and price, the Greenworks 60V carbon fiber string trimmer is an excellent value, especially for homeowners. It has more than enough power for light-duty clearing tasks as well as your weekly yard care with ease. Even more than the performance level, I’m excited to see Greenworks 60V OPE making its way into Walmart stores. If you’re looking to ditch the gas can and break into a solid battery-powered lineup, be sure to keep your eyes peeled!
