Hilti Jaibot Construction Drilling Robot

Hilti Jaibot Construction Robot

Most of us are painfully aware of the labor shortage in the construction industry. For some of us, it’s also the pain of trying to keep up with the work as our bodies age. The Hilti Jaibot construction robot may be the answer to what ails us by using automation to fill the gap.

Hilti Jaibot Concept

Hilti Jaibot Construction Drilling Robot

BIM (building information modeling) is a huge part of commercial and industrial construction design today. The Hilti Jaibot integrates with your BIM designs to handle the overhead marking and drilling for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing applications up to 16.5 feet high. It pairs with the PLT 300 rotary laser to keep track of its drilling arm within 1/8 of an inch.

Technically, it’s a semi-autonomous system. While it doesn’t require an expert to use, it does require human input and oversight. As such, it also includes a dust removal system to make sure its caretaker and any bystanders don’t come into contact with concrete dust and can help keep your workspace Table 1 compliant.

The benefit is that one trained operator can work with the robot and you can relieve your crew of overhead drilling—a literal pain point in the construction process.

Since the Jaibot is working with digital plans across multiple trades, you get cleaner holes, greater accuracy, fewer errors, and faster production. The location, diameter, and even hole depth are all defined ahead of time by the drilling plan. Plus, it sends project updates back to the system so you can track its progress in real-time.

On a single charge, the robot can work up to 8 hours.

Hilti Jaibot 2022 Updates

One of the great things about technology such as this is the ability to update via firmware and software. After spending time on jobsites starting in late 2022, the design team has made several changes.

First, there’s an available upgrade to the dust collection system, making it 30% more effective.

There’s a new sensor system to improve the hole drilling depth accuracy and distance measuring.

Using the Hilti cloud, there’s a 2D structural floor or installation plan that now has greater background information, better user management, and a filtering feature to use diameter for establishing a drilling path. There are also more reporting features along with an option to export data and print a 2D plan.
