I had a few spare minutes, so I decided to check in on our friends at Klein Tools and see how they were doing. Among their new products, I came across something I never expected—sunscreen. I seriously did a double-take. Now that I’ve learned more about it, I thought some of you might be interested, too.

Should You Buy It?
Having lived in Florida for the past four decades, I can confidently say we don’t talk about sunscreen enough on construction sites. We have some amazing workwear that protects us from the sun, but it’s the smaller areas of skin that remain exposed and at risk for skin cancer. So, I’m glad to see Klein addressing it.
There are a few of things I really like about Klein’s sunscreen. First, two-hour protection is excellent. Most sunscreens recommend reapplying hourly. With Klein’s formula, you don’t have to stop as often.
Second, I love having the anchor slot on the lotion bottle. In addition to being small enough to easily store in your tool box or bag, you can tether it to the outside of your bag where you’ll see it and remember to reapply throughout the day.
Finally, the fact that this sunscreen is sold in 12-packs is great. Whether you’re buying for yourself for a season or to ensure your entire crew has access, it’s easier to buy in bulk.
The price may cause you to hesitate, though. The lotion is sold in 1.5-ounce bottles and is a little over $105 for a 12-pack ($8.84/bottle). The spray uses 5.5-ounce bottles and is around $175 for a 12-pack ($14.60/bottle).
Those prices line up with what you’ll pay for premium brands, and certainly, Klein’s 2-hour performance and SPF 50 protection are in the premium class. However, I’m a value guy, and that goes for my sunscreen, too. If you’re buying sunscreen out of your own pocket, brands like Equate at Walmart are much cheaper.
On the other hand, those cheaper formulas require more frequent application, and they might not be as convenient to grab when you’re picking up the other tools and equipment you need from your local Klein retailer. Time is money, after all.
