Skil 8 1/4-Inch Table Saw Performance
- Blade diameter: 8 1/4 inches
- Max blade speed: 5000 RPM
- Bevel range: -2ยฐ – 47ยฐ
- Rip capacity: 12 inches left, 24-1/2 inches right
- Max cutting depth: 2 1/2 inches at 0ยฐ, 1 3/4 inches at 45ยฐ
Cutting Power
To clarify, Skil has actually released two new 8 1/4-inch table saws: a 13-amp model and a 15-amp model. Both models share the same performance and design specifications. The only real difference is the amperage and availabilityโthe 13-amp model (TS6328-00) is only available at Walmart, while the 15-amp saw (TS6308-00) is available from other Skil retailers.
Given the choice, I’d go with the 15-amp model. The higher performance level delivers more power to the blade, and in turn allows you to tackle more demanding cuts in dense dimensional lumber and sheet goods. On top of that, the increased power will handle blades with a higher tooth count more effectively, should you choose a fine finish blade or even a dado blade.
Both models sport an 8 1/4-inch blade that spins at a maximum of 5000 RPM. With that blade size, these saws have a max cut capacity of up to 2 1/2 inches at 0ยฐ and 1 3/4 inches at 45ยฐ, and the bevel settings range between the typical -2ยฐ and 47ยฐ. You can also make dado cuts up to 5/8-inch.
Pro Tip: Don’t forget to calibrate your table saw blade periodically to ensure Pro-grade accuracy
Rip Capacity
The compact table has a rip capacity of 12 inches to the left and 24.5 inches to the right. By the numbers alone, this means you can rip 4×8 sheet goods, but as with any compact table saw, I’d recommend enlisting a friend to give you a hand managing the feed.
These numbers fall right in line with what we expect from a compact table saw. Compared to other compact options, and even Pro brands like the DeWalt DWE7480, you’re not missing out on the typical capacity we look for.

Size and Weight
Being compact models, these table saws both weigh less than 40 pounds, making them easy to transport and store. An aluminum table helps to keep the weight down without sacrificing a ton of durability.
My one concern about the design is in regards to the plastic outer structural panels. This is a toss-up for me. On the one hand, these panels offer shielding for the motor and other vital components. On the other hand, a more open, aluminum frame design without the plastic shrouds, like we saw on Pro-level models like the Flex FX7211-1H, can still maintain a lower weight while maintaining durability.
If you’re buying the saw for DIY projects and not doing a ton of transport, it should be just fine. Just realize it’s not going to tolerate the same kind of abuse that higher-priced saws can.
Rack-and-Pinion Fence System
Like many modern saws, there’s a rack and pinion fence system that makes for quick, easy adjustments and helps keep the fence parallel to the blade. This style eliminates many of the squaring issues that come with clamp-style fences and improves your overall accuracy.
To move the fence, start by pushing down on the tensioner lever and then simply use the knob to move the fence left and right, then pull up on the tensioner to lock it in place.
Accessory Storage
As with most table saws, these saws are equipped with a full suite of safety accessories that store directly on the saw for easy access. This includes a push stick, a blade guard with safety pawls, and a miter gauge. There’s also a cord wrap on the side to keep everything nice and tidy when the saw is not in use.
No Legs to Stand On
One difference between these 8 1/4-inch models and Skil’s 10-inch table saw, other than blade size, is that they lack an included stand. We like table saws with built-in or kitted stands because it’s one less thing to buy. It’s something to keep in mind if you don’t have room on your workbench.
Skil 8 1/4-Inch Table Saw Price
Both of these saws retail for $279. As mentioned, you can find the 13-amp model at Walmart and the 15-amp model at other Skil retailers. Skil backs your purchase with a 5-year warranty.
One thing to consider, though: Skil’s 10-inch model with its integrated stand is $299. If you’re going to add a stand anyway and you have the space, you might like the deeper cutting capacity and more generous table of the larger model.
Should You Buy It?
Skil is a brand that consistently delivers more bang for your buck than its competitors. If you’re a value-focused woodworker or you’re looking for a quality entry-level to get started with, Skil’s 8 1/4-inch compact table saw is worth considering. With the power to make quality cuts in hardwood and a Pro-inspired feature set that makes it convenient to use, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better option without paying a higher price.
