Studson Sets Its Sights on New Safety Glasses

Studson Safety Glasses Balance Style and Protection

Safety glasses are one of the most important pieces of PPE on the jobsite. Eye protection is no joke, as one slip-up can result in permanent disability. Studson has recently shifted our gaze away from their excellent safety helmets and announced the expansion of its safety glasses lineup with two new models. I’ll show you what to expect so you can decide if you should look their way.

Studson Guardian Z87+ Safety Sunglasses

Studson Safety Sunglasses
  • Certified to meet ANSI/ISEA Z87+, Z80.3, and CE EN166 standards
  • Lens material: Polycarbonate
  • Rubberized nose pads
  • Tinted lenses provide 100% UV protection
  • Colorways:
    • Matte Grey / Grey Lens / Yellow-Green Mirror
    • Matte Black / Grey Polarized Lens
    • Matte Black / Clear Lens
    • Matte Tortoise / Amber Polarized Lens

The Guardian safety glasses incorporate a classic full-frame sunglasses look. They have an eight-base curve wrap design, so your eyes stay fully protected while you work. Studson tells us these glasses are certified to meet several safety standards, including ANSI/ISEA Z87+ (high impact), Z80.3 (optical clarity), and CE EN166 (EU) standards.

There are also four lens colorways to choose from. The clear polycarbonate lenses provide the best clarity for general indoor eye protection. For tinted options, you can select between yellow-green for high-glare applications, black polarized for bright conditions, and amber lenses that enhance color contrast. The tinted PC lenses also block 100% of UV rays while providing distortion-free clarity, according to Studson.

Studson Watchman Z87+ Safety Sunglasses

Studson Safety Sunglasses
  • Certified to meet ANSI/ISEA Z87+, Z80.3, and CE EN166 standards
  • Frame material: Pebax polymer
  • Lens material: Polycarbonate
  • Rubberized nose pads
  • Tinted lenses provide 100% UV protection
  • Colorways:
    • Matte Grey / Yellow-Green Lenses
    • Matte Black / Silver Lenses
    • Matte Black / Clear Lenses

What makes the Watchman sunglasses stand out is their lightweight form factor. This is partly due to their frame material, which is comprised of lightweight Pebax polymer for strength and flexibility without adding too much bulk.

Like the Guardian glasses above, the Watchman glasses are certified to meet several safety standards, including ANSI/ISEA Z87+ (high impact), Z80.3 (optical clarity), and CE EN166 (EU) standards.

There are two tinted colorways (Yellow-Green and Silver) for 100% UV protection, and a clear PC lens option for distortion-free clarity.

Price: $35 – $50

Should You Buy Them?

Eyewear preferences really boil down to two categories: style and protection level. Ideally, you’d find the perfect pair that balances both of these priorities. What I like about the Studson Watchman and Guardian safety glasses is that all of their style combinations offer the same level of certified safety across the board. Whether you’re after a clear lens that prioritizes indoor eye safety or a tinted option for maximum sun protection, Studson has you covered.

Neither model is too hard on the wallet, either. A quality, premium pair of sunglasses can often run into the $150 – $200 range, so the $35 and $60 price tags are really reasonable for those looking to stay within a budget. However, if neither pair is your usual cup of tea, Studson’s Sentinel glasses are also a slightly more premium option, at $80.
