Greenlee Drill and Tap Bits for Stainless Steel

Greenlee Drill and Tap Bits Now Capable of Drilling, Tapping, and Deburring Stainless Steel in One Step

If you want to drill, tap, and deburr stainless steel, you’re out of luck for one-step bit options…until now. New Greenlee drill and tap bits are the first ones available that can accomplish the task.

10-Second Summary

  • High-speed steel with titanium nitride coating
  • Split point tip
  • Improved strength and durability
  • 8 standard sizes (6-32 to 3/8-16)
  • 6 metric sizes (M3 to M10)
  • Available in 6-bit sets with case and quick-connect adapter or individually
  • Sets run ~$65

The secret recipe is Greenlee’s choice of high-speed steel and titanium-nitride coating. The increased strength of each bit’s core resists breaking better in thicker materials. It can reduce the torque that reaches your hands while drilling and tapping as well. The result moves the performance and durability of the bits they’ve had for years up to a level that stainless steel is now on the menu.

The design also includes a split point tip to help reduce walking and start cutting into the material quickly.

While these new Greenlee drill and tap bits can handle stainless steel, it’s not the only material they’re useful for. Here’s what else you can work with, all up to 1/4″ thick:

  • Stainless steel
  • Mild steel
  • Aluminum
  • Brass
  • Copper
  • Fiberglass
  • Plastic materials

You can grab a set in standard or metric sizes. The standard set covers 6-32 to 1/4-20 sizes and the metric set hits M3x0.5 to M10x1.50. 5/16-18 and 3/8-16 standard bits are available individually.

Each set includes 6 Greenlee drill and tap bits. When you pick one up, they’ll come in a case that includes a quick-change adapter to go with the bits. You can also pick up individual bits.

MSRP for these sets run $80 – $90, but we’re seeing prices in closer to $65 online. If you’re shopping on Amazon, you can get both the standard and metric sets with free shipping. That’s around $30 – $35 more than Greenlee’s other drill and tap sets.
