HART Cordless Sander Options Finish Woodworking Projects Well

Sanding by hand is a time-honored tradition that goes back a long time. Most of us don’t have that kind of time, though. Power sanders make life easier and a HART cordless sander is even more convenient. Take a look at the options a decide which one is the best for your next project—or get one of each!

HART 20V Cordless 1/4-Sheet Sander

HART 1/4-Sheet

For many DIYers, a 1/4-sheet sander is the way to go for economical sanding. In terms of how much you pay per square inch of sandpaper, buying in sheets is the least expensive. Just cut them into 1/4 sheets, clamp them onto the sander, use the hole punch to open up the vacuum slots, and get to work.

Of HART’s sander models, the HPSD50 has the highest rate at 12,000 OPM. Especially with low-grit sandpaper, it’s going to remove material the fastest.

Ergonomically, HART’s grip area is sound with top pommel and side sections that make natural areas to hold (something we’ll see with all of their sanders). The power button is easy to reach with a blue color that stands out from the black overmold.

The battery installs on the back of the tool and the dust back kicks out to the side of it. If you’re working inside, you can attach 1 1/4-inch or 1 7/8-inch hoses without the need for an adapter. Even if you don’t have a vac to attach, there’s a dust bag that comes in the box.

  • Model Number: HPSD50
  • Pad Style: 1/4-sheet
  • No-Load Speed: 12,000 OPM
  • Vacuum Hose Compatibility: 1 1/4 or 1 7/8-inch

Price

  • $59.88 bare tool
  • $94.88 kit with one 2.0Ah battery and charger

HART 20V Cordless Detail Sander

HART 20V Cordless Detail Sander

HART’s detail sander uses a triangular (delta) pad style that reaches into corners and between narrow pieces to sand where rectangular and circular styles can’t reach. This sander uses a hook and loop pad, making it easier than the 1/4-sheet sander to attach new sandpaper.

The removal rate is a little lower, hitting 11,000 OPM. Ergonomically, the grip area is very similar to the 1/4-sheet sander. Unlike the other sanders in HART’s lineup, this one doesn’t have a vacuum port, so there’s a bit more to clean up if you’re working inside. Fortunately, HART has cordless vacuum options to make that an easier chore.

  • Model Number: HPSD85
  • Pad Style: Delta
  • No-Load Speed: 11,000 OPM
  • Vacuum Hose Compatibility: NA

Price

  • $49.88 bare tool
  • $84.88 kit with one 2.0Ah battery and charger

HART 20V Cordless Random Orbital Sander

HART 20V Cordless Random Orbit Sander

Rounding out the line, HART’s random orbit sander offers the best overall finish. Its orbit pattern is literally random, so the tiny swirl marks you might see from other sander patterns aren’t there.

The oscillation rate is the slowest of the group, but at 10,000 OPM, it’s certainly a very capable sander. Plus, its 5-inch pad covers a larger area than the other models and has the convenience of a hook and loop connection.

Like the other sanders, the grip areas are well-designed. This model includes a dust port and there’s a bag in the box. You can also attach a 1 1/4 or 1 7/8-inch hose if you’re using a vacuum.

  • Model Number: HPSD01
  • Pade Size: 5 in
  • No-Load Speed: 10,000 OPM
  • Bare Weight: 2.3 lbs
  • Vacuum Hose Compatibility: 1 1/4 or 1 7/8-inch
