Most Powerful Backpack Blower? Meet the Husqvarna 590BTS

Performance Takes Center Stage with Husqvarna 590 Series Backpack Blowers

Husqvarna has quite a few Pro-grade backpack blowers in its lineup, but it’s struggled to compete with some of the highest-performing models over the past few years. That might be changing, though, and there are some eye-popping claims surrounding the Husqvarna 590BTS backpack blower. I’m sharing what I’ve discovered to help you see where they fit in the line and help you determine if they’re right for your crew.

Husqvarna 590BTS Backpack Blower Performance

Husqvarna 590BTS Backpack Blower
  • Max air volume: 1245 CFM
  • Max blowing force: 56 N
  • Max air speed: 216 MPH
  • Engine: 79.4cc X-TORQ
  • Max engine speed: 7700 RPM
  • Idling speed: 2000 RPM

Husqvarna claims that its 590 series backpack blowers are the world’s most powerful models. While we haven’t had the chance to put it on our own force meter to verify, its numbers are certainly impressive. It delivers air volume levels up to 1245 CFM, with a top airspeed of 216 MPH. Husqvarna also measures a blowing force of 56N.

These numbers are actually identical to what we saw on the RedMax EBZ9000 backpack blower that was announced in 2024. However, this isn’t surprising, as Husqvarna Group has owned RedMax since 2007.

This is genuinely impressive. Brands have been trying to get as much out of a backpack blower engine without exceeding the 80cc mark for years. At first, the Stihl BR 800 C-E and X Magnum models hit the 41-Newton mark. Then, ECHO’s PB-9010 claimed 48 Newtons but actually measured 52 Newtons on our force meter.

Husqvarna pushing that even higher to 56 Newtons sets a new benchmark, and Pros who prefer the performance of gas are sure to take notice.

Speed and Throttle Controls

While I’ve been focusing on the 590BTS, there are actually two models in the 590 series. The other is the 590BFS. The main difference between these two blowers is their handle and control configuration. The 590BTS features a variable speed trigger on the right handle, along with a cruise control function and an auto-return stop switch.

On the 590BFS, there’s no such trigger on the handle, with the throttle control being mounted on the left side of the frame. Unlike the trigger design on the BTS, the throttle dial is not spring-loaded, meaning you can turn it to your desired blowing level without needing to hold it down, eliminating the need for a separate cruise control function.

Note: The 590BFS is available for the North American market only.

Weight

Both of these blowers have a similar weight, with the 590BTS weighing in at 26.2 pounds and the 590BFS being slightly heavier at 26.7 pounds. As with most backpack blowers, most of the weight is supported by your back and torso.

An ergonomic load-bearing harness takes the brunt of the heft, with a hip belt and chest strap to maintain balance. They also feature adjustable padded shoulder straps for comfortable clearing sessions. An air-cooled back pad keeps you cool while you work, too.

Fueling

Both blowers have a generous 91.3 fl oz fuel tank, which keeps you running longer between fill-ups. With the engine at the top of the power range for backpack blowers, you’ll appreciate the larger tank, even though it does add a little more weight than other models when it’s full.

Additionally, Husqvarna includes a simplified start-up procedure with these blowers. Simply purge the engine, push the start button, and pull the cord to start. There’s a foot support area at the bottom of the frame to keep the blower in place as you pull the cord.

Husqvarna 590BTS and 590BFS Backpack Blower Price

These blowers each retail for $789, and you can find them at your favorite Husqvarna retailer. Husqvarna backs your purchase with a 2-year warranty.

Should You Buy It?

These Husqvarna blowers are designed for the high-hour needs of professional landscapers. They outclass most other blowers on the market in airspeed and blowing force, letting you easily clear leaves and other debris. For that reason, it’s appealing for crews who want the absolute highest blowing force possible. Even if you don’t need all the blowing force available, the large fuel tank can give you impressively long runtime at lower power levels.

That high performance comes at a price, though, and crews who don’t have a premium budget should consider other models.

Weight is a consideration as well, especially with a full fuel tank on this model. If you prefer lighter models to reduce fatigue, the 590 isn’t your blower.
