The Ingersoll Rand IQV20 Cordless Polisher/Sander Thrives Where Full-Size Tools Can’t Fit
Detailing cars is not always about hoods, trunks, and other large areas…sometimes it really does come down to the fine details. There are many areas that would typically require hand polishing or sanding because the five or six-inch pad of the polisher won’t fit. These areas are a great fit for the Ingersoll Rand IQV20 Cordless Polisher/Sander.

The Ingersoll Rand G4621 is their first cordless variable-speed polisher and sander on the IQV20 battery platform. It features a brushless motor and a 2-speed gearbox and has a top speed of 8,300 RPM. It’s also relatively compact at 4.9 inches long and weighing 1.9 pounds as a bare tool and 3.5 pounds with a 5.0Ah battery. The grip is covered with textured rubber overmold and the tool body features protective bumpers that increase the tool’s overall durability.
This tool fills the gap between your full-sized buffer or orbital sander and allows you to tackle detail work in tight spaces where a larger tool simply wouldn’t fit. For polishing and buffing applications, the low speed gives you up to 2,800 rpm. For sanding work, I recommend kicking it into high speed for faster removal of material. Of course, the variable speed trigger and 2-position auxiliary handle lets you take control even further.
Switching between implements is pretty simple and similar to swapping out a threaded grinding disc. Just press the spindle lock button and rotate the disc until you feel it lock into place. Next, rotate the disc counterclockwise to loosen the 5/16-inch threaded spindle. Lastly, hold the spindle lock and tighten the new disc.

The Bottom Line
This looks like a great option when it comes to buffing out smaller imperfections or for feathering into tighter spots when using it as a small rotary sander. While it’s not nearly as fast as some of the pneumatic options out there, it’s incredibly versatile and lets you do more with just one tool.
