Temperature Checks

Klein IR1 Infrared Thermometer

The Klein IR1 Thermometer is ideal for both temperature inspections and general troubleshooting. It features a 10:1 distance-to-spot ratio. That more or less means that for every 10-inches away, you measure a 1-inch wide area. At 10-feet, you’re taking an average temperature of a 12-inch wide space. It also features an FDA and IEC Class 2 targeting laser so you know exactly what you’re measuring from ten paces back.

The Klein IR1 has a measurement range between -4° to 752° F. Or, should you need, you can easily switch to Celsius readings to measure between -20° and 400°. All of your readings pop up on a highly visible, backlit display. It features a fixed emissivity at 0.95.

Finally, the Klein IR1 Thermometer is designed to stand up to typical jobsite blunders, like drops and impacts. It features drop protection up to 6.6 ft.

Our Quick Take

If you don’t currently use an IR thermometer for troubleshooting, this could get your “feet wet”. Klein currently has around 4 models of IR thermometer, including the dual laser IR thermometer with over twice the resolution. For general troubleshooting of heat issues—especially if you can get close—the IR1 makes for a nice entry-level tool. Use it for motors, circuit breakers, and even checking HVAC input and output temperatures.

You can pick up the Klein IR1 Infrared Temperature for $29.99. Like all of Klein’s test and measurement tools, it comes with a two-year warranty.
