Makita AWS Universal Adapter: What it is and How it Works
The Makita AWS system, if you don’t know, uses Bluetooth communication in a tool and vacuum to wireless activate suction when you pull the trigger. It reduces noise when your tools aren’t actively in use and makes more efficient use of batteries in the Makita XCV08 AWSdust extractor.
The Makita AWS Universal Adapter lets you keep the wireless function without the need for an AWS-enabled vacuum. You can use it with the Makita VC4710 or another dust extractor with a tool-activated outlet.
It pairs essentially the same as other AWS tool/vac pairings. Makita includes a 3-channel button to find the least congested signal. The 120V pigtail plug on the end goes into the outlet on your dust extractor and sends an electrical signal to the vac when you pull the trigger on your AWS tool. Just set the vac dial to “auto” and it’s ready to go.
An adjustable strap and clip let you attach it to a vacuum. Since the cord is long enough to reach all the way around your vacuum, it opens up just about any location you want to secure it.
At the time of writing, most retailers don’t have the adapter in stock yet and the prices we’re seeing online are from less than reliable sources. We’ll give you an update as soon as we know something concrete.
