Measure Once, Cut Once: Ox Pro SpeedFrame Offers the Perfect Fit Every Time

If there’s one thing that most tradesmen have in common on the job, it’s that measuring and leveling are a universal necessity. Whether you’re framing, installing doors or windows, laying brick, or any other skilled trade, you likely have your bubble level and tape close at hand. Ox Tools thinks there’s a better way to measure and level. The Ox Pro SpeedFrame combines two tools in one for an accurate, easy measuring and leveling experience on any jobsite.

I’ll walk you through what’s special about this tool so you can decide if it’ll simplify your next job.

Ox Pro SpeedFrame Overview

Ox Tools lauds the SpeedFrame as the next generation of jobsite measurement efficiency. Essentially, the SpeedFrame combines your bubble level and tape measure into one tool, eliminating the need to juggle multiple tools for an accurate cut.

At $149 to $250, it’s certainly a more premium experience than your standard level or tape measure. However, the convenience factor is what’s really at play here for Pros. Instead of balancing your flexible tape and bubble level to get an accurate cut, the SpeedFrame’s rigid point-to-point measuring system lets you lock in your measurement down to 1/16-inch for precise readings every time.

It works with Ox’s patented Twin-Rail System, which enables smooth measuring rail extension. Once you extend the rail to your desired measurement, you can lock it in place with the lock switch to capture your measurement.

Leveling

There are a variety of separate bubble levels on each SpeedFrame, and their locations vary by model.

On the 29 – 48-inch model, you get a horizontal bubble toward the center of the frame for horizontal leveling, and two bubbles toward the right for leveling vertically.

The 53 – 96-inch SpeedFrame features a total of five bubbles—two horizontal and three vertical—spaced throughout the frame for easy leveling at any angle.

Finally, the largest model, the 78 – 144-inch SpeedFrame is equipped with six bubbles spaced similarly to the 23 – 96-inch model, with an extra bubble on the end of the right-hand (or top when leveling vertically) extension rail. Since the 78 –144-inch SpeedFrame opens in both directions, this is useful for keeping your project level even while fully extended at 12 feet long.

Measurement

The SpeedFrame’s measuring function is fairly straightforward and truly easy to use. It features an extendible measurement rail similar to what we see in extendable levels already on the market. However, there are a few details that make it stand out from the rest.

First, the high-visibility scale window gauges your point-to-point distance measurements for calculation-free precision. The main frame features a 29-inch measuring scale, and the extendable rail adds up to an additional 20 inches.

When you find your measurement, it’s displayed right on the window, and you can lock it in place to mark your material using the SpeedFrame’s all-sides scribing edges. Additionally, the smooth black edge lets you write your measurements down while you work, and easily erase them when you’re done.

Ox Pro SpeedFrame Price

The SpeedFrame is currently available in three sizes, priced as follows:

  • 29-inch – 48-inch SpeedFrame: $149
  • 53-inch – 96-inch SpeedFrame: $199
  • 78-inch – 144-inch SpeedFrame: $250

On top of those, there’s also the 14-inch – 22.5-inch SpeedFrame—the smallest SpeedFrame model. However, at the time of writing, there is no pricing information available on that size.

Should You Buy It?

Leveling and measurement tools are a dime a dozen, and many of them fall in the budget-friendly category. However, OX Tools takes things a step further for Pros with the SpeedFrame, which combines a variety of measuring and leveling funtions in one tool.

While it’s a more premium measuring and leveling experience than your typical bubble level or tape, the convenience of not needing to balance multiple tools makes it worth considering for jobs that require repeated measuring and leveling. Plus, there are multiple sizes to choose from, and the whole fleet manages measurements from 14 inches to 144 inches.

As reflected by the price point, the SpeedFrame is a tool for Pro-grade use. For homeowners, DIYers, and hobbyist crafters, I recommend sticking to traditional measurement and leveling methods unless you’re after a serious gear upgrade and have room in your budget.
