From what we can see, the Red Wing EXOS Lite keeps the weight down while offering plenty of performance, comfort, and protection. The mid-duty lineup comes in five different styles, each providing waterproofing and a list of safety features to keep your feet safe and comfortable.

Features Overview

• Red Wing’s HRO Soles have been designed and tested to perform on high heat surfaces. Soles identified as HRO are heat resistant to melting at a minimum of 475º Fahrenheit.
• Red Wing uses hides from U.S.-raised cattle with minimal surface imperfections. With control over every step of the crafting process, Red Wing can ensure a handsome boot that remains incredibly durable.
• The Vibram outsole uses rubber compounds that offer excellent traction and high abrasion resistance in a variety of environments, ensuring that you get years of use.
• The Red Wing EXOS Lite Boots all feature the brand’s waterproofing system. This is a 3-layer approach designed to keep your feet dry all day. Linings help wick moisture away from your foot. Then, foam provides cushioning and a comfortable fit. Finally, Red Wing includes a Tricot bootie that provides a waterproof barrier to keep moisture out. (Um…best not mention the “bootie” to your jobsite buddies)
• Screen Shield is a thin and highly durable coating that Red Wing applies to the toe and other high-wear areas of the boot to add durability without adding weight.
• Swen-Flex insoles provide non-metallic, puncture resistance. These insoles consist of high-strength, woven fibers, with the insoles meeting or exceeding CSA, ASTM, and EN standards for puncture resistance.
• The BOA Fit System lets you dial in a fast, precision fit. By pushing in the dial, you can then turn to micro-adjust tightness for a precision fit. Pulling up on the dial affects a fast release. We love this system and have used it for many, many years.

Our Thoughts

Red Wing EXOS Lite Boots feature an aluminum toe (except for the 985 model) and protection against electrical shock, meeting ATSM safety standards. This kind of lightweight safety boot can get you very far. It’s a great combination and we’ve found most RedWing boots we’ve tried to be very comfortable. Tying that comfort with lower weight seems like a win and one that anyone who likes RedWing boots (or has an annual boot budget) might want to try for themselves.
