For 2020, Ridgid has focused on the sub-compact corner of the 18V tool market with many of the year’s new releases. One of the cases-in-point is the Ridgid 18V Sub-Compact Multi-Material Saw. The R87547B operates similarly to your standard angle grinder and cut-off wheel setup, but in a smaller package that you can wield one-handed.

What Can the Ridgid Multi-Material Saw Tackle?

With a brushless motor that cranks out up to 19,000 RPM, the Ridgid Sub-Compact Multi-Material Saw provides quick cuts in a variety of materials. It comes with three different 3″ wheels. Each wheel targets either metal, tile, PVC, drywall, and/or plaster.

Ridgid optimized the R87547B ergonomics and design for one-handed use. First, it weighs in at only a pound and a half (for the bare tool). Its 4 x 11 x 4 frame also lets it get into spaces that could be a challenge for a circular saw or even an angle grinder.

Dual Direction and Movable Guard

The Ridgid R87547B saw features a variable-speed trigger and direction selection switch for forward and reverse. In Forward, the wheel spins in the direction you’d expect for an angle grinder. In Reverse, it operates more like a mini circular saw.

It also features a tool-free rotating guard adjustment and an adjustable wire cut-depth guide. An LED work light keeps your workspace visible, even in dim light quality.
