Keep Your Shrubs Tidy With the Skil 40V 24-inch Hedge Trimmer

Skil’s Second-Generation 40V Hedge Trimmer Offers Design Updates

Skil is a popular brand for homeowners, both for power tools and outdoor power equipment. The Skil tools we’ve tested offer wonderful value at a performance level that takes care of most residential needs. On the OPE side, the brand has offerings on its 20V and 40V systems, and today I’m looking at the latest addition to the PWRCore 40 hedge trimmer lineup. Is this Skil 40V 24-inch hedge trimmer worth the upgrade over their last model? I’ll help you decide.

Skil 40V 24-inch Hedge Trimmer Performance

  • Model: Skil HT2400C-11
  • Battery platform: Skil PWRCore 40
  • Max speed: 3000 SPM
  • Cutting capacity: 3/4-inch
  • Blade length: 24 inches
  • Brushless motor

The Skil HT2400C-11 is the second-generation hedge trimmer on the PWRCore 40 platform. It keeps the same size as its predecessor, with a 24-inch blade length. It also reaches the same top speed levels of 3000 SPM thanks to a brushless motor.

This hedge trimmer has a cutting capacity of 3/4-inch, letting you cut through branches up to that thickness. This is also the same capacity as the last model, which is enough to take care of medium-duty hedge trimming jobs.

Skil 40V 24-inch Hedge Trimmer Design

Skil 40V 24-inch Hedge Trimmer
  • Dimension (LxWxH): 40.5 x 8.7 x 7.2 inches
  • Weight: 6.2 lbs
  • Dual-action blades
  • Double-sided blades
  • IPX4 rating
  • Trigger lock-off button
  • Blade tip protector

Skil didn’t introduce any surprises with the HT2400C-11’s design, opting for a standard form factor. It weighs 6.2 pounds bare, and adding in the kitted PRWCore 40 2.5Ah brings the working weight up to just over 7 pounds. Across the landscape of cordless hedge trimmers, that’s pretty light.

Like the last model (HT4221-10), this hedge trimmer features double-sided, dual-action blades to cut in any direction. The blades are constructed of hardened steel for added durability and a cleaner cut.

There are a couple of design differences with this model that weren’t present in Skil’s previous 40V hedge trimmer. First, the HT2400C-11 introduces a blade tip protector, which protects the end of the blade and the surrounding area from accidental damage.

There’s also a debris remover, which sweeps off trimmed branches and leaves as you work. The debris sweeper is removable, so you can opt not to use it if you’d rather go the traditional route.

Finally, this hedge trimmer is IPX4-rated, meaning it can withstand light water splashes, so wrapping things up as that summer thunderstorm is rolling in is no big deal. Just watch out for the lightning.

Skil 40V 24-inch Hedge Trimmer Price

This hedge trimmer retails for $119 as a kit, including a 2.5Ah battery, a charger, and a debris deflector. There are currently no bare tool options. Skil backs your purchase with a 5-year warranty.

Should You Buy It?

Skil’s roster of outdoor power equipment puts a big emphasis on value, and that stands true with their newest 40V 24-inch hedge trimmer. While the HT2400C-11 doesn’t make any performance leaps, it offers some welcome design upgrades over the last model. Oh, and it’s also around $20 less than the previous iteration, at just $119 for the kit, while offering the same performance.

If you’re on Skil’s PWRCore 40 system and you’re looking for a hedge trimmer to round out your lawn care arsenal, the HT2400C-11 offers a good value with the performance to knock out most residential hedge trimming jobs. However, if you already own the last model, you can probably keep that one in the rotation unless you’re really after this model’s design changes.
