M18 Fuel Super Hawg second generation Plumbers Tool Reviews

2nd Gen Milwaukee M18 Fuel Super Hawg Right-Angle Drill

It’s here—the second-gen Milwaukee M18 Fuel Super Hawg Right-Angle Drill. The company says they designed this model from the ground-up with an upgraded brushless motor and optimized electronics. It also now benefits from the use of the new RedLithium High-Output 6.0Ah battery. We reviewed the original Milwaukee M18 Fuel Super Hawg back in 2017. That tool could power through 6-inch holes, but the 2nd Gen M18 Fuel Super Hawg has the power to tweak that number up to 6-1/4-inches.

But Will It Blend?

Milwaukee tested the 2nd Gen Milwaukee M18 Fuel Super Hawg right-angle drill through 6-inch beams and measured speeds that matched their corded Super Hawg. They also claim enough run-time to complete a single-family home rough-in or rough-in multiple multi-family units on a single charge. With the existence of the new Super Charger, plumbers and electricians can expect continuous use when swapping batteries.

While the new Milwaukee M18 Fuel Super Hawg may look identical to its predecessor, the upgraded brushless motor has been upgraded. It now delivers 30 percent more power in high-speed. Milwaukee also upgraded the electronics to give more power to the motor while under load. The result is a tool that can drill 6-1/4 inch holes through 6-inch beam. Even the gear ratio got a tweak to increase performance and application speeds. At 1550 RPM, the new tool should match the corded Milwaukee Super Hawg—even under load.

The new second-generation Milwaukee M18 Super Hawg can be purchased with either a 1/2-inch all-metal keyed chuck or their 7/16-inch Quik-Lok chuck.

Milwaukee M18 Fuel Super Hawg Gen 2 Run-Time

Using a Milwaukee M18 Redlithium High Output XC6.0 battery, the new right-angle drill can drill over 100 2-9/16 inch holes in 2x4s on a single charge using a self-feed bit. At just 13.5 to 14 pounds with the battery—it actually weighs LESS than the corded Super Hawg!

What Does This Mean?

So what does this mean for the tradesman interested in the Super Hawg? It could save you a ton of time and money. The original Super Hawg impressed us, and you could add the Milwaukee High Demand 9Ah battery to get more run-time. With the new second-generation Super Hawg, however, you get more power under load. That means less bogging down and a lot more efficiency when drilling through multiple studs for running your vents and pipe. We look forward to getting this tool in and testing it out.
