Eureka Ergonomic Adjustable Height Workstation Brings Sit-Stand Benefits to Your Shop

At Pro Tool Reviews, our staff all enjoy the benefits of sit-stand desks. We have both manual and electric styles and I happen to be typing this while standing at mine right now. I can’t exactly roll my desk into the shop when it’s time for testing (and we do a TON of testing!), so I jumped at the chance to give the Eureka Ergonomic Adjustable Height Workstation a shot.

Pros

  • Easy to adjust height makes it great for multiple users
  • Combination of storage bays and pegboard gives the cart relevant shop function
  • Only adjustable height workstation design like this that we’ve seen

Cons

  • MDF top isn’t as shop-friendly as steel or solid wood
  • Lower capacity and fewer storage options than a true service cart at a similar price

Recommendation

As our world demands that we have more information available at our fingertips and brings computers into our workspace instead of just in the office, an adjustable height service cart is really handy to have around. The Eureka Ergonomic Adjustable Height Workstation gives us the benefits of a sit-stand desk with some genuinely helpful service cart storage.

The key to getting the most out of it is knowing that it’s primarily an adjustable height work surface with light storage instead of a full replacement for a service cart.

Build

The overall build of the Eureka Ergonomic Adjustable Height Workstation starts with a set of heavy-duty casters (2 locking, 2 free) supporting a steel frame and storage areas, and a covered MDF top.

On one side, you have a metal pegboard and a couple of 10-pound capacity trays on the opposite. The front and rear are open to access the static 100-pound capacity shelves. There’s no under top storage since the mechanics for the height adjustment take up that space. However, the top can support up to 100 pounds (Eureka recommends 35 pounds while rolling).

Compared to a typical service cart, the sheet metal is a lighter gauge and the MDF top isn’t as shop-friendly as steel or solid wood. However, it doesn’t feel like it’s cheaply built. The casters roll super-easily and make it a breeze to use on concrete floors in a shop, garage, or warehouse.

Key Features

Adjustable Height Top

The standout feature is clearly the adjustable height top. While it’s not the first we’ve seen in our shop (check out this Husky workbench), it is the only one we’ve seen that takes the sit-stand desk approach.

To adjust it, pull up on the levers underneath the left and right sides and pull up or push down. The spring tension is set well for it to take very little effort on your part. Even my 12-year old son can adjust it with no problem.

Peg Board

I love that the left side of the cart is a full metal pegboard. It makes customizing to your specific needs a lot easier.

10-Pound Side Trays

On the right side, two side trays sit next to the bottom and middle shelves. These are really handy for things you need to grab frequently like paper towels, spray bottles, and aerosol cans.

100-Pound Shelves

The two main shelves don’t slide out, so you’ll want to be tactical about what you house there. They’re essentially blank canvases and we like them for tossing a couple of Packout organizers on when we’re testing.

Applications

For our needs, the Eureka Ergonomic Adjustable Height Workstation does a great job of supporting our testing. We’re constantly recording data on a computer and writing other notes down. The table has enough space for a laptop and notebook to fit comfortably along with a few handheld tools.

Between Tom Gaige (5’8″), me (6’2″), and Clint (we don’t talk about Clint’s height), we’re constantly making adjustments to the height as we collaboratively work. When the day gets long and we shift from standing to sitting on a shop stool, we can still dial in the right height.

One thing worth noting is that the maximum 45-1/2″ height is perfect as a standing desk for me. If you’re taller, it might not reach quite as high as you need for the best ergonomics.

As our world continues further down the technology path, having a height-adjustable service cart makes more sense. With the constant need to be accessing a computer or tablet, it keeps you from having to bend over to view the most recent data or update service records.

Even for simply using it as a workbench, getting it to a height that lets you stand up straight is an improvement over traditional service carts.

The big thing to keep in mind is that it’s primarily an adjustable height workstation that has storage rather than a true service cart foundation with an adjustable height top.

Price

At $799.99, you might expect more capacity and storage compared to what you get with other service carts in the same price range. Even with the adjustable top, I’d like to see the shelves swapped out for drawers with high-quality slides and a boost in capacity at this price. That said, it’s right in line with what we expect from the sit-stand sector.

There’s no real competition for Eureka Ergonomic in this category right now, not even on Amazon. Your only other options at the moment are to repurpose something that’s already height adjustable and not designed for a shop or plop a sit-stand top on an existing cart.
