Worx Nitro 80V Backpack Blower Rockets Into Contention
Battery-powered blowers have challenges on two fronts: producing relevant power and maintaining excellent runtime. The Worx Nitro 80V backpack leaf blower turns to its swappable Base Camp to pursue those goals.
Worx Nitro 80V Backpack Leaf Blower: The Big Deal
This backpack blower uses four 20V batteries together to achieve an 80V output. Sound familiar? They did the same thing with the Nitro 80V Self Propelled Lawn Mower. The batteries connect to a device called Base Camp, which charges all four batteries at the same time. When fully charged, you simply connect the entire Base Camp power pack directly to the WORX blower.
This blower uses a sonic turbine fan powered by a brushless motor to deliver up to 800 CFM with wind speeds of up to 150 MPH. It also has dual intake fans to pull additional air for greater output. While we haven’t had a chance to test it yet, 800 CFM tops anything else on the market so far.
Worx is claiming an impressive 22 Newtons in turbo and 16 Newtons on high. Even though the CFM value is really high, the overall blowing force isn’t the highest we’ve seen, with some models reaching into the mid-20s. Let’s not take away from the fact that 22 Newtons does put this in a very elite class, though.
- Variable air control nozzle shifts between volume, high-speed, and turbo modes
- Padded adjustable shoulder straps
- Chest and waist straps
- 3-1/2 hour runtime on low setting
- Less than 24 pounds with batteries
