When you work in the professional construction or woodworking trade, better power tool accessories typically means better results. We can't tell you how many times we tried a cheap blade only to use up 2 or 3 where one would have lasted longer and performed better. As we found out with our oscillating multi-tool shootout, a poorly made accessory blade can ruin the performance of even the best tool, while a decent one can make even an average tool shine. That seems to be the message veteran tradesman Joe Sainz will communicate to fellow tradesmen, dealers, contractors, and DIYers this summer when he takes on the persona of "Joe the Pro" and begins traveling to job sites, power tools dealerships and events all over the United States.
We got to meet the charismatic "Joe the Pro" Sainz at the 2010 Bosch Global Leadership Tour in Mount Prospect, IL. While very vibrant on stage and in front of the camera, he has a real down-to-earth, genuine demeanor when talking one-on-one. As we got to know Joe a little more over the following days it was apparent that he really knows and enjoys the business and could be a valuable asset to Bosch's plan for world domination... at least with respect to their accessories that is. In addition to his tour, Joe is appearing in Bosch-sponsored videos designed to show the effectiveness of buying good quality accessories, regardless of who's tools you plan on using them with. It's a neat campaign and one that actually shows Bosch's accessories under fire.
The title "Joe the Pro" is meant to reflect Sainz' status as a construction specialist. In his career he has built homes, worked as a remodeler and even a finish carpenter. He is a union carpenter and holds a certificate in electrical mechanics. An avid woodworker, Sainz even restores antique hand tools in his spare time. He has personally experienced situations where low-quality accessories spoiled projects and ruined workdays. He has also seen situations where a great accessory has literally saved the day (and so have we).
Sponsored by Bosch Accessories, the Joe the Pro program is a multifaceted effort to teach people nationwide that power tool accessories are not simply commodity items, they are absolutely critical to success on the jobsite.
"I've fallen into the trap of buying the cheaper accessory many times, but there's always a price to pay – the poorly-made accessory either fails in the middle of a job or doesn't last long enough to keep you out of the tool store and on the jobsite. It's just not worth it, especially when there are innovative companies like Bosch producing accessories that work faster, last longer and keep the user on the job and making money."
- Joe "the Pro" Sainz
Joe seems to care about helping people be more productive, make more money and be proud of their finished work. Based on what we saw demoed this year, Joe and Bosch have some very compelling tool accessories that help them back up their claims. In particular, we saw their carbide hole saws cleanly tear through tile and drywall in four seconds - and that was a 4-1/8" diameter saw! Their Nailkiller auger bit really took out nails, even when driven through an 8x8 post that had four 16D directly in its path... they popped out one by one just like jack-in-the-boxes.
For the past two years, Sainz has worked with pro tradesmen and dealers as a trainer for Bosch Accessories. Bosch actively recruited him for the job, according to Bosch brand manager Chad Reynolds, because of his broad trade skills, his impressive knowledge of tools and accessories and his uncanny ability to communicate with fellow tradesmen. Because of this perfect blend of experience, knowledge and personality, says Reynolds, Bosch realized they had a perfect opportunity to ignite a widespread conversation about high-quality power tool accessories by taking Joe the Pro on the road. This campaign is all about bringing users together to talk about jobsite solutions.
The Joe the Pro tour begins with the International Woodworking Fair in Atlanta this August. From there, Joe the Pro will head to the 2010 STAFDA Convention this November in Phoenix. In between, Joe will attend dealer events, visit jobsites and talk with the media throughout the nation – sharing stories, handing out product samples, demonstrating new techniques and more.
Users can follow Joe's travels at www.boschjoethepro.com. There, they can read reports from the road, view video tips and pointers, find events in their area and even share their own ideas and experiences. The point, says Sainz, is to get end users and dealers talking about power tool accessories as a resource that makes business sense for everyone.
In addition to the Joe the Pro Website, trade professionals can also follow Joe on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. To find out more about the latest innovative accessories from Bosch, or to find a local dealer, users may visit www.boschtools.com or call 877-BOSCH-99.
