Toro 60V Max Revolution Hedge Trimmer Performance

Cutting Power
The Toro 66120T is the company’s second 60V hedge trimmer and its largest model to date. It features a 26-inch blade with dual-sided knives and a 1.2-inch cut capacity. This allows you to trim overgrown branches and shrubs with ease.

This model is larger than Toro’s first-gen 60V hedge trimmer (51840), which has a 24-inch blade. The 51840 has a smaller 3/4-inch cutting capacity, so the boost to 1.2 inches with the 66120T is a nice increase.

As for speeds, this hedge trimmer tops out at 4100 SPM. It features two speed modes (3200 in low, 4100 in high), letting you set your trimming rate to the application. There’s also a reverse mode that moves the knives slowly back and forth, letting you quickly unjam debris that can clog the teeth.
Power Sources
Along with a standard Toro 60V Max battery, this hedge trimmer is also compatible with Toro’s 60V Revolution backpack power supply (66000T). This is particularly compelling for professional landscapers who use other Toro 60V handheld outdoor power tools.
The power supply features two battery ports and connects to the battery slot of your 60V Max tools via the PowerLink Backpack Tether (66005), enabling you to run your equipment for longer between charges and quickly switch between handheld tools.

These two accessories will increase your bottom line by around $500 (before adding batteries). However, if you want to build your OPE collection around Toro’s 60V platform, they do make a compelling case for commercial users.
Toro 60V Max Revolution Hedge Trimmer Design

Size and Weight
When it comes to design, Toro doesn’t deviate much from the standard formula with the 66120T. At 9.2 pounds for the bare tool, it’s on the heavier side—something we expect from models with more power and larger blades. My only gripe is that there is a significant rear weight bias, even with the smaller 2.5Ah battery. While the battery does offset the weight of the knives, it’s not the most comfortable trimmer I’ve ever tested.
Rotating Handle

One particular design aspect I really appreciate is this model’s rotating handle. You can turn it to 90° to the right and left, giving you a total rotation of 180°. This lets you trim vertically more easily and maneuver the trimmer around obstacles like buildings and other shrubs. The rotating handle was also present in the previous iteration, so it’s a nice carry-over that I enjoy seeing in hedge trimmers.
As expected, the blades are also double-sided, enabling a dual-action clipping style for a more even cut. Additionally, a tip guard protects the blade and your surroundings from accidental damage while you work.
Hands-On Testing
To get a feel for how this trimmer would perform in the field, we set off to reclaim some lakefront property at the home of our Editor-in-Chief, Kenny Koehler. The area where we did the bulk of our trimming was a steep slope with a mix of small branches and vines, so weight and maneuverability were key factors for us to consider for this application.
While the power level was definitely more than enough to tackle the overgrowth, the weight and balance were a little tough to contend with. As I mentioned before, this trimmer has a pronounced rear bias, which made it difficult for me to maintain my balance on the slope while working. That said, I appreciated the long 26-inch bar because it gave me so much reach, allowing me to clear more from one position without moving.
With this in mind, I switch over to a more traditional trimming task back at our office. Unfortunately, some of our decorative hedges fell victim to a late winter freeze earlier this year, so it was time to trim them back so the new growth can thrive as we move into summer.
Starting at the top, we removed the bulk of the smaller dead branches. This was relatively light work for the 66120T, so we decided to kick it up a notch. After clearing away the top branches, we moved to the thicker stalks—most in the 3/4 to 1-inch range.
To our delight, this trimmer sailed through these branches with ease. The wide 1.2-inch cut capacity allowed trimmings to easily fall away without clogging the knives.
Although our testing didn’t require us to adjust the grip position, this is a very handy feature to have on a hedge trimmer. It makes the transition from shaping the top and sides of box-style hedges absolutely seamless.
Toro 60V Max Revolution Hedge Trimmer Price
This hedge trimmer retails for $399 as a bare tool. There are currently no kit options, so be sure to pick up a Toro 60V Max battery and charger if you’re not already on this platform. Toro backs your purchase with a 3-year residential warranty and a 2-year commercial warranty.
Should You Buy It?
If the Toro 26-inch Revolution hedge trimmer seems like a big improvement over the first 60V model, you’re right. Not only does it have a larger cutting capacity and higher top speeds, but it’s also designed around the needs of Pro landscapers. Between higher performance, a beefier build, and compatibility with the 60V Revolution backpack power supply, landscaping crews have a more capable option.
For those already on the 60V platform for their home lawn care needs, you’ll certainly enjoy the upgrade. That being said, the price is steep. At $399 for the bare tool, decide if you really need a Pro-grade model. If not, the first-generation 24-inch hedge trimmer is a quality alternative for those who value a lower price point.
Toro’s 20V platform is still an option as well if you’re after a more budget-friendly hedge trimmer to keep your home landscaping in check.
