The Evolution S14CPS-Li is aimed at Pros who want the capacity and cutting approach of a full-size metal chop saw without being tied to a power outlet. Its 14-inch carbide-tooth blade, tool-free adjustable miter fence, shadowline cut guide, and quick-release vise make it a well-equipped option on paper. The main consideration is cost. At $650 for the bare tool, it’s a significant investment, and getting batteries and a charger pushes the price higher. Its 50-pound weight also means cordless convenience doesn’t make it a lightweight tool to carry from site to site. For fabricators, steelworkers, and other folks who regularly cut metal away from a fixed workshop, the S14CPS-Li offers a practical combination of cordless mobility and cutting capacity. If most of your work happens at a permanent cutting station, a corded saw may still make more financial sense. But if you value the ability to bring the saw to the material, Evolution has built the S14CPS-Li around that advantage.

Overall Score 9.4 (out of 10)

Cordless power tools have made their way into just about every corner of the jobsite, but metal cutting is an application where going cordless can make a real difference in convenience. A chop saw is often tied to a workshop or a dedicated cutting station, which can mean moving material back and forth or finding a way to bring power to the jobsite independently. Evolution’s new Cordless Chop Saw aims to change that with their new cordless metal-cutting chop saw designed for fabrication work both in the shop and out in the field. Let’s take a closer look at what Evolution brings to the table.

Pros

  • Clean cut quality
  • Cordless operation
  • Easy transport handle
  • Mountable base
  • Onboard tool storage

Cons

  • Limited cordless platform

Evolution Cordless Chop Saw Performance

Evolution Metal Cutting Chop Saw

Cold Metal Cutting

Evolution powers the S14CPS-Li with a brushless motor and a pair of 20V batteries to create a 40V system. That arrangement gives the saw the advantage of cordless operation without shrinking it down into a smaller, more specialized cutting tool. For fabricators and installers who regularly work away from a permanent workshop, eliminating the need for a dedicated outlet simplifies setup and makes it easier to cut material on-site.

The Evolution S14CPS-Li uses an 80-tooth Evomax cermet carbide blade running at a no-load speed of 1,100 RPM. Rather than relying on a traditional abrasive wheel, this setup uses carbide teeth to cut through metal. The difference matters because the blade design is intended to leave a cleaner cut with less burr formation and less heat transferred to the workpiece.

Evolution claims the S14CPS-Li cuts up to four times faster than abrasive saws while producing a smooth finish that is ready for welding with minimal additional surface prep. They also say its cold-cutting approach produces virtually no dust and significantly fewer sparks than abrasive cutting. That said, the saw still naturally produces metal shavings, which are conveniently captured in the removable collection bin. It’s not a perfect system, but it does manage to catch the majority of cuttings produced from each application.

To get some hands-on experience with this saw, we made a series of cuts in #5 rebar, 1/4-inch mild steel angle iron, and steel tubing. The main takeaway for us was how clean the finished product turned out. There were very few burrs and sparks, meaning that additional surface prep would be minimal. Compared with a more traditional abrasive-wheel chop saw, the S14CPS-Li offers a huge advantage for fabricators.

Moreover, we have the benefit of comparing this saw side by side against the Bosch 18V Dry Cut Saw—another top performer in this limited category. To me, their performance is essentially equal, but Bosch does offer the advantage of an established and extensive lineup of capable 18V tools. With that said, if you’re already working on the Evolution 20V platform, this is an excellent option.

Runtime

Runtime is another important part of the equation. Evolution claims up to 400 cuts per charge when using 8.0Ah batteries. That figure provides a useful reference, though your real-world results may vary with the material.

The saw also features an overload protection system with an LED indicator located between the two battery bays. This gives you instant visual feedback when the motor is being pushed too hard, helping you avoid excessive pressure that can affect cutting efficiency and draw your batteries down faster.

Cut Line Accuracy

A chop saw is only as useful as its ability to hold material securely and repeat cuts consistently. Evolution builds the S14CPS-Li around a cast aluminum base, steel wear plate, and a cast iron fence. That combination is intended to provide a stable platform for repeated metal cutting.

For alignment, the saw employs a shadowline cut guide. Instead of relying on a laser, the system uses an LED light to project the blade’s shadow onto your material before making a cut. I greatly prefer this because it doesn’t require any calibration, even when you change blades.

It’s paired with a quick-release vise and a miter fence that adjusts from 0° to 45°. The vise uses a threaded rod to secure the workpiece, and an included V-block adapter helps hold round material. In those respects, it’s very similar to a traditional metal chop saw.

Evolution lists the maximum cutting capacity at 4-3/4 inches square for 90° cuts. For miter cuts, that capacity depends on the material’s shape: the saw can handle square tube up to 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches at 45°, rectangular tube up to 3 1/8 x 4 3/8 inches, and round tube up to 4 1/8 inches in diameter. Those capacities give the saw room to handle a range of common fabrication materials, though it’s still worth checking the dimensions of the stock you cut most often against the specifications before buying.

Evolution Cordless Chop Saw Design Notes

Size and Ergonomics

At around 50 pounds, the S14CPS-Li isn’t a lightweight portable saw, but Evolution designed this saw with a built-in carry handle and a lock-down pin to make moving and transporting it more manageable.

Its dimensions are approximately 15-13/16 x 20-11/16 x 12-3/4 inches, so you’ll still need room for the saw and the material you’re cutting.

As for actual ergonomics, this saw follows a similar plan to Bosch. It sports a horizontal grip with an integrated safety trigger to help prevent accidental activation during transport. Moreover, this design is very ergonomic and allows you to engage all four fingers while pulling the trigger. It seems like a small detail, but coming from first-hand experience, feeling in control through the entire cut is paramount when dealing with metal chop saws.

Evolution Cordless Chop Saw Price

This saw retails for $650 as a bare tool and $1,000 as a kit that includes two 8.0Ah batteries and a dual-port charger. Evolution backs it with a 3-year warranty.

As a bare tool, it’s about $100 less than the Bosch GCD18V-14N. If you’re already working with cordless Evolution tools, it’s a compelling price point. That said, the Evolution’s corded version is $500, so it’s definitely an investment if you need the kit to get started.
