Cordless nailers and staplers are quickly becoming essential on jobsites where mobility, speed, and reliability matter—and Bosch is clearly paying attention. The Bosch GTH18V-50M Medium Crown Stapler is the latest entry into their 18V cordless nailer lineup, and it’s unlike anything we’ve ever seen before on the cordless market. Today, we’re taking a closer look at its performance, build quality, and the features that make it stand out from its pneumatic counterparts.
Bosch GTH18V-50M Medium Crown Stapler Performance
- Shots Per Charge: 1,100 shots per charge (with 4.0Ah battery)
- Fastener Size: 16 ga, 7/16 in.
- Nail Size: 1 – 2 in.
- Max Firing Rate: 3 staples per second
- Magazine Capacity: 150 staples
The Bosch 18V GTH18V-50M Medium Crown Stapler is a robust cordless alternative for Pros who demand power and precision from their tools. At its heart, this stapler sports a brushless motor that fires up to 1,100 shots per charge with a 4.0Ah battery, and up to 3 staples per second.
While there are quite a few cordless narrow crown staplers on the market, it’s important to understand that the Bosch GTH18V-50M is breaking new ground. The 16-gauge 7/16-inch staples are much larger and more robust than the cordless 3/8-inch crown staplers from Flex and Kobalt. These staples also have improved holding power.
The unique open-air magazine holds up to 150 staples that range in size from 1 to 2 inches, and gives you a clear visual indicator of your remaining staples.
This stapler is equipped with an intuitive control panel that allows you to toggle between the single and bump-fire modes, and includes an LED battery-life indicator.
Depth Adjustment
Depth adjustments are very easy on this stapler. Simply turn the dial on the side to sink fasteners deeper or shallower based on your application and material.
Bosch takes it one step further and designed this stapler with a reversible nose plate.
This nose plate can adjust outward and gives you an extra 1/4-inch of space if you need to further decrease the drive depth in soft materials.
Bosch GTH18V-50M Medium Crown Stapler Design Notes
- Model: Bosch GTH18V-50M
- Power Source: Bosch 18V battery
- Weight: 7.56 lbs (bare tool), 8.75 lbs (with 4.0Ah battery)
- Head Length: 13 in.
Size and Weight
The Bosch GTH18V-50M weighs 7.56 pounds as a bare tool, 8.75 pounds with the recommended 4.0Ah battery, and measures 13 inches from tip to tail. Its overall form factor is very similar to Bosch’s other cordless 18V nailers. Despite its larger profile, this stapler is very well balanced and easy to maneuver.
The GTH18V-50M is noticeably heavier compared to some of the pneumatic models like the Bostitch 651S5 and Makita AT1150A, but that’s par for the course with cordless nailers. However, its size isn’t too different from pneumatic alternatives we’ve seen. With that said, if you’re looking for a compact stapler, you’ll probably want to give this one a pass.
Ergonomics
Once again, Bosch didn’t reinvent the wheel with the design of this nailer. The grip and tool body are draped in a generous amount of rubber overmold and the ambidextrous power button makes it easy to activate the tool from either side. This power button is a unique to Bosch and is a departure from more traditional foot mounted power buttons or even trigger activation.
Tool-Free Jam Clearance
If a nail jams, you won’t have to look for a hex wrench to open the nose section and dig it out. Simply flip the latch cover forward and lift it up to access the top of the magazine. Once you free the offending nail and close the latch, you can be back to work in a matter of seconds rather than minutes.
Dry Fire Lockout
The dry fire lockout kicks in once the nailer has five fasteners remaining in the magazine. This helps avoid increased wear and tear on the drive system and unnecessary downtime.
Bosch GTH18V-50M Medium Crown Stapler Price
The Bosch GTH18V-50M retails for $649 as a bare tool and comes with a 5-year limited warranty. Yes, that’s expensive compared to other cordless nailer classes, but this model is in a class by itself.
The Bottom Line
The Bosch GTH18V-50M hits a sweet spot for Pros who demand consistent driving power, intelligent controls, and low-maintenance operation in a cordless format. While it may not be the most compact option out there, its thoughtful design and jobsite-ready performance more than make up for the extra size.
The real feat here is that Bosch transformed a traditionally pneumatic tool into an industry first on the battery-powered scene. That alone earns the design team a gold medal. Admittedly, this is a fairly specialized tool, but it’s incredibly useful for installing roof or wall sheathing, vinyl siding, flooring, or even assembling shipping crates and pallets. Plus, the larger staples provide a significantly more holding power over simple nails or screws.
