When the news about the new Milwaukee M12 Variable Speed Polisher – Sander, I took a quick look at the picture and realized that many people might wonder, “Why not just use a drill with the polishing and sanding heads?” One look at the specs, specifically the RPM’s that the M12 runs will tell you just […]
Lots of people have hobbies—one of mine happens to be building vintage industrial furniture and light fixtures by mixing steel and reclaimed lumber. It’s something I’ve done for years, and in addition to having grown quite adept at crafting all sorts of designs from seemingly impossible raw material, I’ve also learned that it’s a great […]
Corded performance in cordless tools? That’s what Milwaukee is claiming as they expand their line of Milwaukee M18 FUEL cordless tools. In this first introductory article of four that will take a closer look of each of these new offerings, I’ll dive into the details of the new Milwaukee M18 FUEL Grinder. For starters, Milwaukee […]
Want to know what happens when you give a 10 year-old a power tool and ask him to write a short story about it? I enlisted the help and imagination of my son, Caleb, to see what he’d come up with. The following is, hopefully, the start of a new column—and a growing enjoyment of, and […]
I’ve got two corded orbital sanders, which is in itself a story. My Porter-Cable is about 10-12 years old, and I’ve repaired and rebuilt that thing over and over again throughout the years. About 8-9 years ago I somehow misplaced it in the Jeep “war wagon” I used to drive around to get from job […]
When we heard Makita was putting out a cordless orbital sander we quickly wondered if they had gone off their Rockler… get it? Rockler… OK, nevermind the pun… The bottom line is that it’s really hard to imagine a sanding tool lasting long enough for extended use in the workshop. After all, when 12V oscillating multi-tools first started hitting the streets, users were getting a scant 8-10 minutes of use out of the tools. But Makita apparently didn’t get the memo, and so its engineers went to work on the new 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 5″ Random Orbit Sander (model LXOB01). And guess what? They got 40 minutes of run-time out of it.
Makita dropped a new metalworking tool into its 18V line. Their brand new one-handed Makita LXDG01 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 1/4″ Die Grinder is a compact solution for metalworking applications – and we’re talking anything from grinding, to smoothing and cutting. The tool has a convenient barrel-grip design and operates at 25,000 RPM – all off […]
Bosch Power Tools and Accessories has earned its well-deserved reputation for providing outstanding user experiences in the grinder category. Now, with the CAG180 4 1/2-inch, 18-volt Lithium-Ion Angle Grinder, Bosch has set out to create the most powerful cordless angle grinder in its class packed with power, design and safety features. It is designed to outlast and outperform the competition. The CAG180 addresses many common user complaints with cordless grinders used for light-duty cutting and grinding applications in metal, masonry and tile materials such as lack of power, excessive weight and poor overload capacity that causes the tool to stall when the pressure is raised.
