Big Drill Energy

The 60V Max DeWalt DCD471 Quick-Change Stud and Joist Drill features a brushless motor and two different speed settings. It should power through just about any job with the right application of speed and muscle. It can turn 0-400 rpm in the low setting and up to 1320 rpm at High speed. The quick-shift speed selector also lets you make changes to the top speed without having to feather the trigger.

DeWalt Stud and Joist Drill

The DeWalt DCD471 tackles up to 4-5/8 in. self-feed bits when working with wood. Need more? It drills up to 6-1/4 inch diameter holes in wood using a hole saw. The 7/16 in. Hex Quick-Change chuck gives this tool its name. It lets you change out bits quickly and easily.

Normally, with this kind of power, you run the risk of yanking your arm out its socket when your bit binds up. DeWalt adds an anti-rotational E-Clutch System to prevent injuries like that. We keep seeing this feature pop up in more and more high-torque drills—and we hope the trend continues.

E-Clutch on the DCD471X1 detects the motion of the tool. If it senses a bind-up, it shuts down the drilling action immediately. When this happens, a red LED also lights up to let you know the E-Clutch engaged.

DeWalt Stud and Joist Drill

The DeWalt DCD471 Quick-Change Stud and Joist Drill features a magnesium gear case to reduce the weight to a manageable 13.9 lbs.

And, for those folks using the DeWalt Tool Connect System, this tool comes ready for tag installation. This lets you track and locate the tool with the DeWalt Tool Connect app on your smartphone.

Big Richard

So is it just a quick-change chuck version of the DCD470, or does it have a power boost over its predecessor, similar to the gen II circ saw, recip, and grinder that came out last year?
