Bosch HDH183 & Bosch DDH183 Added to Brute Tough Line

Bosch HDH183 & Bosch DDH183 Added to Brute Tough Line

Bosch recently upgraded the design and function of its 18V Brute Tough drill series. The new Bosch DDH183 and Bosch HDH183 drills now feature KickBack Control to help reduce injuries in bind up situations, an upgraded all-metal chuck, and Bosch EC Brushless Motor.

If you’re familiar with Bosch’s model numbering system, then you already know the Bosch DDS183 is the drill/driver version and the Bosch HDH183 is the hammer drill version of the same tool. Specs are identical with up to 2100 RPM and 663 inch pounds of torque. Having brushless motors means they’ll run longer, stronger, and have a higher lifespan than their brushed motor companions.

“Professionals today expect the power and longevity of a corded tool in a cordless package. The Bosch DDH183 drill/driver and HDH183 hammer drill/driver deliver the power our users demand while including advanced features like KickBack Control and the precision clutch. It’s these incremental benefits to the user that set Bosch tools apart.”

Our Take

Moving up from the 181 series (the 182 models were Compact Tough only), the move to a brushless motor is a no-brainer for the heavy-duty Brute Tough 183 series. Bosch’s battery efficiency tends to be outstanding as we saw in our 12V drill shootout recently, so the combination of battery and brushless motor should be a big upgrade for current Bosch users.

The other feature to get excited about is the KickBack Control in both the Bosch DDH183 and HDH183. When used in conjunction with the auxiliary handle included with both models, it’s one of the features that set Bosch apart along with their typically solid build quality. Both models are available as a bare tool or as kits with two 4.0 amp hour Fat Packs.
