Our Take

Milwaukee SDS-Max Drill Bits Reach Next Generation

It’s not often that we get to write about our experience with a recently-announced tool or accessory almost immediately after having tested it out in real life, but that’s exactly what we did with the next generation SDS-Max bits at Milwaukee’s New Product Symposium. We spent several glorious hours learning about and using some of the new products that will hit the stores and jobsites this fall.

We’re in an excellent time of innovation in tools, where the need for differentiation is driving manufacturers to better ideas. The self-sharpening bits gain a design to last longer, as users get a near-mulligan once you blunt the original edge.

Likewise, the drill bits clear away waste quickly and extend the life of the bit with their new update. Installers of all stripes will undoubtedly be interested in putting the bits and chisels through their paces.

Our little “bit” of testing in the controlled environment of the Symposium is, of course, no match for the jobsite. But initial responses by attendees and us are quite positive. The performance of the bits is especially impressive when hooking the hammer up to Milwaukee’s new dust collector and dust shroud. That makes the entire system compatible with OSHA’s new silica dust requirements. We’re ready for some masonry work – are you?
