EGO Carbon Fiber Edger: Are There Real Advantages?

EGO Adds an 8-inch Edger to the 56V Multi-Head System… But Do You Really Need Carbon Fiber?

If you’re new to multi-head tool systems, they can save you tons of space and money. Instead of buying each individual tool separately, the same power head drives a variety of lawn care solutions. In EGO’s case, the 56V Multi-Head system is home to over a dozen different tools, including the newest member of the group, the 8-inch Carbon Fiber Edger. So, what benefits does it pose over the standard edger design?

On this edger, you’ll find a standard 8-inch rectangular blade for durability and ease of use around all types of outdoor boundaries. It features an adjustable guide wheel that allows for an edging depth of up to 3 inches for crisp lines.

The powerhead includes an adjustable auxiliary handle for added balance and weight distribution. An IPX4 ingress rating also protects both the powerhead and edger attachment from water splashes in case inclement weather rolls in.

Carbon Fiber Upgrades

If this all sounds familiar, it may be because EGO released its first 8-inch attachment-capable edger a couple of years ago. However, the EA0820 edger attachment comes with one important upgrade: a carbon fiber shaft. It looks like the new carbon fiber model is replacing the older discontinued 8-inch edger, too.

Carbon fiber construction has several benefits, including a lighter weight, more vibration absorption, and high durability. In fact, EGO backs the carbon fiber shaft with a lifetime warranty!

Don’t underestimate the vibration-dampening benefits. When you’re string trimming, edging, and hedge trimming a large property, it really helps stave off fatigue.

EGO 56V Multi-Head 8-inch Edger Price

This edger retails for $219 as a bare tool, which also includes the 56V powerhead. If you’re already on EGO’s Multi-Head system, you can also buy the 8-inch carbon fiber edger attachment separately for $169. There are currently no kit options available that include a battery and charger, so be sure to pick those up if you’re not already on this platform!

EGO backs your purchase with a 5-year warranty, and the carbon fiber shaft has a lifetime warranty. Just be sure to register your purchase within 90 days.

Should You Buy It?

There are several advantages of multi-head systems for lawn care, especially for those with limited storage space. If your shed or truck is cluttered with individual edgers, string trimmers, pole saws, and more, it may be time to consider whether a powerhead system is right for you.

But the real question is the one we started with—are the claimed advantages of carbon fiber worth it?

Yes. Better yet, the lighter weight and vibration-dampening benefits compound as you add more handheld tools. By adding the carbon fiber edger alongside EGO’s other carbon fiber attachments, you’ll notice less fatigue when you’re finished with your lawn care. The fact that it’s all part of one of the best battery-powered OPE platforms is icing on the cake.
