If you own a Ridgid 18V 21° or 30° nailer, there’s a chance it may pose an accidental nail-firing risk. While there have not been any injuries reported at the time of writing, Ridgid issued a voluntary recall on certain cordless nailer models.
To help you determine if your nailer is under recall, I’ll share which models are a concern and how you can file a claim.
Ridgid Nailer Recall: Affected Models
There are two nailers affected by this recall, but both models have been very popular sellers at The Home Depot. Ridgid tells us that about 64,000 units throughout the United States are affected, as well as about 6,575 units in Canada.
The source of the risk is the dual-action engagement system, which has the potential to malfunction and involuntarily discharge by a trigger pull alone, posing a laceration hazard.
The nailer should require both the nose piece to be depressed and the trigger to be pulled at the same time in order for a nail to be discharged.
The two affected models are:
- Ridgid 18-Volt Brushless 21-Degree Framing Nailer R09894
- Ridgid 18-Volt Brushless 30-Degree Framing Nailer R09895
To find out if your nailer is part of the recall, Ridgid says you can look at the serial number.
“The model and serial numbers are located on the data plate found either on the side of the nail tray/magazine where the fasteners are loaded or on the bottom of the nailer where you insert the battery.
Only nailers without either a black ink mark or a punched hole next to the serial number on the data plate are included in the recall.”
Ridgid’s Statement
Ridgid put out a statement regarding this recall on their social media channels. Here’s how the brand acknowledged the issue:
