Replacing a corded or pneumatic breaking tool with a cordless model is no small feat, but that’s exactly what the Hilti TE 3000-22 Heavy-duty Cordless Jackhammer intends to do. These tools demand tremendous power, face long hours, and must be durable enough to withstand the rigors of the jobsite. With that said, Hilti’s TE 3000-22 aims to prove that the Nuron battery platform is up to the challenge. We took a closer look at its performance claims, runtime expectations, and key design elements to see what this cordless jackhammer brings to the table.

Performance

At the heart of the TE 3000-22 is a brushless motor that delivers up to 840 BPM and 62.7 ft-lbs of impact energy. This is nearly identical to Hilti’s corded TE 3000, so you can expect the real-world performance to be comparable. Hilti also tells us that this jackhammer can chisel up to 9 tons of material per hour, but you’ll probably need a few spare batteries on hand.

According to Hilti, a pair of B 22-290 batteries can demo up to 1.8 tons of concrete per charge, making it a viable solution for structural demolition, road repairs, trenching, asphalt breaking, and other demanding applications.

For lighter work, Hilti designed this jackhammer with a power-reduction mode to extend your runtime.

But how does that compare to DeWalt, Milwaukee, and Makita?

This is an eye-opening comparison. Even with their most powerful and advanced battery systems, DeWalt, Milwaukee, and Makita are still well short of the impact energy Hilti delivers. Milwaukee deals with it by increasing the blow rate, but Hilti is quite clearly the power leader.

Active Vibration Reduction

Comfort is a major focus with tools in this category. In light of this, Hilti equipped the TE 3000-22 with their Active Vibration Reduction (AVR) system and fully isolated handles to help reduce fatigue during extended use. There’s also a soft-start function to help tame the initial jolt when the tool engages. This improves your overall control as the breaker ramps up to full power.

In the past, we’ve seen Hilti successfully employ its AVR system on large rotary hammers and other impact tools, such as the corded TE 3000, so we’re glad to see it here as well.

Dust Collection

If you’re working indoors or in a poorly ventilated area, dust collection is a top priority. Fortunately, the TE 3000-22 is compatible with Hilti’s Dust Removal System (TE DRS-H), which attaches directly to the chisel’s shaft and directs dust and debris to your dust extractor.

Quick-Change Chuck

Hilti equipped this jackhammer with a quick-change chuck that’s compatible with their TE-H chisels. This design is another carryover from the corded TE 3000 and helps minimize downtime while swapping out accessories.

Should You Buy It?

The Hilti TE 3000-22 offers some real advantages for Pros in the field. The portability is essentially unlimited, you get excellent vibration control, and, judging by the specs, you won’t sacrifice any power by cutting the cord. With that said, there is one factor that looms over the TE 3000-22, and that’s runtime.

Hilti claims you can bust up to 1.8 tons of concrete with a pair of fully charged B 22-290 batteries. While this is an impressive feat, you may run into a snag if you don’t have a steady stream of fresh batteries to get you through those bigger demo jobs. On top of that, it also carries a high bare tool price tag, even compared to other Pro-grade brands. The flip side to that is Hilti’s Fleet pricing, which may be advantageous for busy Pros and tool-crib managers.

If you’re already invested in Hilti’s Nuron platform, or regularly work where cords and compressors are impractical, the TE 3000-22 makes a compelling case as a high-performance cordless alternative. However, if you frequently tackle larger demo jobs near a reliable power source, the corded TE 3000 is still a darn fine breaker.
