It’s not too often that we see brands venture into the cordless large angle grinder class, as the immense power draw requires advanced high-capacity batteries. In fact, the options are pretty slim and only include major brands such as Metabo, Makita, Milwaukee, and today’s star—DeWalt. All are capable options, but today we’re focusing on the DeWalt 60V Max FlexVolt Large Angle Grinder (DCG460) to see what sets it apart from the pack.
DeWalt 60V Max Angle Grinder’s Eye-Popping Performance
This is DeWalt’s first-generation cordless 9-inch grinder, and it has several key upgrades that I want to address. The most significant of which is its overall power level—3000 max watts out (MWO). That’s significantly higher than the 2300 watts of the previous 7-inch model (DCG440). This is a big deal considering how much power it takes to maintain RPMs with a 9-inch disc.

It’s even more impressive when you consider it against corded models. The large angle grinder class usually has a 120-volt, 15-amp motor, meaning it can only produce around 1800 watts. The DCG480 is putting out 67% more power!
That allows DeWalt to supercharge the speed all the way to 9000 RPM. This is pretty incredible, especially considering most models in the 9-inch class are usually clocking in around 6500 RPM. As a result, you can expect to save some serious time during while removing material and cutting.
The other big upgrade is DeWalt’s Wireless Tool Control. When paired with a WTC-enabled vacuum, it automatically turns the vac on and off, which helps manage battery life and reduces unnecessary noise.
There are a couple of downsides, though. For one, at roughly 16.5 pounds, this is a heavy grinder, even for the large class. For comparison, Milwaukee’s 2785 model is about four and a half pounds lighter, but only tops out at 6,600 RPMs. That’s the price you pay for such high performance.
The last thing to consider is that the DCG460 is a single-speed grinder. While the high speed is great for working fast, you don’t have the ability to dial it down if you need to. If you need a little more finesse for your work, this might not be the best option.

Should You Buy It?
Simply looking at the specs, the DeWalt 60V Max DCG460 is quite impressive. The improved power level and incredible top speed make this grinder stand out from the crowd and make it much easier to remove material quickly. The only drawback I can see is that there are no speed controls. It’s not a deal breaker for me, but if you want a little more finesse, this might not be the tool for you.
