Hilti’s Third Nuron Cut-Off Saw Tops the Lineup’s Performance Charts
Until recently, cordless cut-off saws took the back seat to their gas-powered counterparts. However, Hilti is leading the battery-powered charge in this class, with three cordless cut-off saws on its Nuron battery platform. Today, I’m covering the newest addition to the roster, the Hilti DSH 900-22 cut-off saw, which is also the brand’s largest and most powerful cordless model. So, how does it stack against the rest of the DSH series?
Hilti Cordless Cut-Off Saw Overview

Like its 12-inch predecessors, the Hilti DSH 900-22 cut-off saw uses a pair of 22V Nuron batteries to power a 14-inch blade. It features a 6-inch cutting capacity, which is well over an inch more than you get with either of Hilti’s previous cordless cut-off saws. It’s also higher than we see in other 14-inch battery-powered models on the market, like the Milwaukee MX Fuel MXF315 and the Makita 80V max GEC01.
The blade spins at up to 3900 RPM to power through materials like metal, asphalt, concrete, and more without the fumes or vibration you get with typical gas saws. While the top speed is lower than we see in other 14-inch cordless models, Hilti’s 90cc equivalent motor prioritizes high torque and cut capacity rather than the highest speeds.
For runtimes, Hilti doesn’t give any numbers, but they do claim that it cuts around as much as a full tank of gas when you use four B 22-290 Nuron batteries. This will require that you have two fully-charged batteries on stand-by for when the two in your tool are depleted.
This saw is designed for both wet and dry coring. When you’re using it on concrete, masonry, or other dust-producing material, you can connect this saw to a water source to keep the dust to a minimum.
For safety, Hilti equipped this cordless cut-off saw with Active Torque Control (ATC), which stops the blade in under 1 second in the event of kickback. During normal use, the blade also stops in less than 4 seconds after releasing the trigger.
Digging Deeper into the DSH 900-22
Seriously Impressive Power
There are a couple of things I want to dig into a little more. The first is the power of this saw. When you look around at other high-power battery-powered products, the OPE sector is where we see benchmarks pushed forward frequently.
One class that’s highly competitive is battery-powered chainsaws. Yet they’ve only reached 70 cc gas equivalent power. There’s only one saw to reach that level, and it uses an 82V power source to get there.
Turning to backpack blowers, there’s one model that hits above the 90 cc equivalent mark. Everything else is under 80 cc, and most brands don’t even get that high.
The point is that producing 90 cc equivalent power is a seriously difficult engineering challenge. Doing it with a pair of 22V Nuron batteries (44V total) when Hilti’s closest competitors are using 72V/80V Max shows just how impressive this battery system really is.
Safety is No Accident
Don’t overlook the importance of Hilti’s ATC feature. Some of the most gruesome jobsite accidents are courtesy of cut-off saws. This isn’t the place to detail them, but there’s no scenario where the blade contacting part of your body or catching your clothing ends well.
A 14-inch blade spinning 3900 RPM has a lot of rotational mass, and getting it to stop in under a second is another impressive engineering feat. It’s a feature that’s likely to prevent career-ending injuries and possibly death.
Comparing Hilti’s Nuron Cut-Off Saws
As mentioned, this is the third cut-off saw in the cordless Nuron lineup. Here’s how it stacks up side-by-side against Hilti’s two 12-inch models.

Hilti Cordless Cut-Off Saw Price
This cut-off saw starts at $1,746 for the bare tool directly from Hilti, or $55.75 monthly in Hilti’s fleet management program. Depending on your configuration, your purchase includes a blade or a selection of cutting discs if you buy directly through Hilti.
You can also find this tool for $1,595 at The Home Depot, also for the bare tool. However, for those planning to buy at Depot, be aware that the blades are a separate purchase.
In either case, you must also buy your batteries and chargers separately à la carte. Hilti recommends the B 22-290 batteries for this cut-off saw, which retail for $314 apiece.
Should You Buy It?
There’s no question that the Hilti DSH 900-22 fits into the rest of Hilti’s roster of tools for professional jobsites and Pro-grade applications.
At 90cc gas equivalence, it seals itself as Hilti’s most powerful cordless cut-off saw to date, which is nothing to turn your nose up at for jobsites looking to ditch the gas can or achieve full-size cutting depth for interior applications where you can’t use gas saws. It’s also the largest model in the lineup, with a cut capacity exceeding that of Hilti’s other cordless cut-offs by more than an inch. The 6-inch capacity is also more than you get with similar cordless models from Milwaukee and Makita.
However, if your team doesn’t require the largest cut capacity and you don’t mind trading top-level performance, Hilti’s 12-inch models offer extended runtime and shave off a few hundred dollars.
