Having reviewed several electric scooters in the past several years, getting a chance to look at the NAVEE ST3 Pro electric scooter seemed like a great opportunity. We had already reviewed the HOVSCO HovRanger e-bike, so expectations were high. The immediate draws to this scooter are its dual brakes, larger 450W motor, and low cost of entry. The fact that it goes up to 21 mph doesn’t hurt either!
NAVEE ST3 Pro Electric Scooter Overview
One of my sons travels about a mile each way to and from his college campus to his apartment. Along the way, he encounters sidewalks, brick streets, and other obstacles. I was curious whether the NAVEE ST3 Pro electric scooter could be a more comfortable option and also provide him with better speed and range. While he weighs just shy of 130 pounds, the route includes a fairly steep incline—at least by Florida standards. Any scooter he uses needs to have enough power to handle that terrain without losing speed or stressing the motor. The battery of the electric scooter also needs enough capacity to keep from having to recharge it every other trip.
Rider Capacity & Speed
The NAVEE ST3 Pro supports up to 265 pounds—an impressive stat that sets it up against some of the top competitors. To reach those numbers, it employs a 600W (nominal motor) and weighs just shy of 56 pounds. Much of the weight is due to the larger-capacity battery and the quad suspension, front drum, and rear disk brakes. The most we taxed it with is my 160 pounds, but it had a very confident ride.
Speed Modes
In terms of speed, the ST3 Pro scooter does really well and has three modes:
- Walking mode (3.7 mph)
- Standard mode (12 mph)
- Sport mode (24 mph)
In Walking mode, the scooter can match someone on a brisk walk. You can use this mode when someone wants to join you on a walk but can’t due to a physical limitation. The Standard mode tops out around 12 mph and lets you get comfortable with the scooter. It’s also great for younger drivers, so they don’t easily get above their skill range. Switching to Sport mode, you can reach speeds up to 24 mph—which feels quite fast on a scooter. This was the mode I spent most of the review in.
Design and Portability
The NAVEE scooter comes equipped with an oversized, non-removable 48V 12.75Ah lithium-ion battery. This gives it more capacity and runtime than any other scooter we’ve ever tested. In fact, you get up to 46 miles of range depending on the terrain. The only potential downside is that a full recharge takes around 10 hours, so be sure to use the app to monitor your battery level.
Folding the scooter for transport involves two steps. First, you release the steering column using a latch, allowing it to fold forward. Then, a secondary latch mechanism on the top of the column secures it to the rear of the deck. It’s a more secure and thoughtful approach than the single latch design we’ve seen on other models.
Kickstand
The spring-loaded kickstand on the ST3 Pro is positioned where you’d expect on the left side of the deck. It’s easy to use your foot to activate and retract it, but it does stick out below the deck, making it the first thing to go if you encounter something that pops up at you.
Jelly Front and Rear Tires
Dual 10-inch “jelly” tires resist punctures due to being tubeless and self-healing. That means you can take a minor puncture such as a nail without losing pressure or having to replace an inner tube. You also get a unique front and rear suspension that is the most “off-road” suspension I’ve ever seen on an electric scooter that seems designed for in-town commuting. It uses dual-sided polymer damping arms around the front and rear tires to let them truly absorb major impacts and bumps.
Driving the NAVEE ST3 Pro Scooter
There is nothing slow about moving at a brisk 20 mph on an electric scooter. Flying across a paved road on a pair of 10-inch wheels makes you feel like you’re going much faster than the speedometer may indicate. While NAVEE claims this scooter tops out at 24.9 mph, I was unable to get to that speed—most likely due to limitations on this device class in the United States.
If anything, the NAVEE feels like it can do a wheelie; there is so much torque in the rear hub motor. For regular in-town use, I actually recommend setting the S-Gear Acceleration Adjustment (in the App) to “Eco Mode” as Turbo Mode would make your 0–20 acceleration even more spontaneous.
You can switch modes either before you start or as you drive by double-clicking the power button on the throttle. The speed modes break down as follows, and they are indicated by icons on the LCD screen:
- Walking mode – 4 mph max
- Standard mode (D) – 12 mph max
- Sport mode (S) – 20 mph max
Press the power button just once, and it turns on the bright LED headlight. You can also activate the LED with the app or set it to come on when low ambient light is detected.
Braking
The NAVEE ST3 Pro scooter features what they call an “advanced triple braking system”. It uses a combination of front drum brakes, rear disc brakes, and rear EABS—which is essentially regenerative braking that actually backfeeds some energy to the battery whenever you aren’t applying acceleration. To put it bluntly, the ST3 Pro stops on a dime—not literally, but pretty close.
LED Lights All Over the Place
You get a LOT of LED lights on this scooter. First off, the front LED can be turned on via the app or activated by hitting the power button. It also has an automatic function, turning it on at dusk. Built-in turning indicators are something I’d not seen before in an electric scooter, and I really like them. Press the button to toggle left or right on and off as needed to indicate turns and drive more safely.
NAVEE also automatically activates the brake light when either of the brakes are used.
You also get a cool ambient LED light that can be always on or set to any of three other modes for various effects. Via the NAVEE app, you can also choose the color.
LED Display
The LCD display gives you access to a variety of info, including speed, drive mode, remaining battery charge, headlight status, and more.
