Ryobi Link Rolling Tool Box 3-Piece Set Review

Ryobi Link 3-Piece Tool Box Set01

Rolling tool boxes and compatible sets are pretty easy to find, and there’s a wide range of prices and quality levels to consider. The Ryobi Link Rolling Tool Box 3-Piece Set tosses its hat in the ring as a part of the brand’s comprehensive storage, organization, and transport system. We set out to discover who it’s a good fit for.

Pros

  • Compatible with Ryobi Link wall rails (excluding rolling tool box)
  • Connects easily and securaly by setting one box one top of the other
  • One-button release
  • Stout telescoping handle
  • Easy-rolling 9-inch wheels

Cons

  • You can’t open a box without removing ones above it
  • Organizers can shift inside the standard tool box

Ryobi Link Rolling Tool Box 3-Piece Set Design

The set we’re reviewing contains three interlocking pieces (there’s another set that adds a tool crate as a fourth). Each of the raised elements on the top of the box corresponds with recessed ones on the base. Here’s the cool thing: every one of them actively engages when you stack them. Compared to side locking mechanisms, it feels more secure, it’s easier to lock by just setting one box on top of another, and its single-button release is more convenient.

With the exception of the rolling tool box, the other boxes are also compatible with Ryobi Link wall storage rails. Just keep in mind the weight capacities.

Ryobi Link Rolling Tool Box

The rolling tool box forms the base of the 3-piece set and it’s a firm foundation. 9-inch wheels roll smoothly and can handle a variety of terrains, including stairs. The telescoping handle is beefy with a 6-sided shape that makes it structurally stronger.

Inside, there’s bulk storage for loads up to 200 pounds. The opening is 21 1/4 x 15 7/8 inches (the interior design shrinks that in a little) and it’s 13 3/4 inches deep.

Set into the lid, there’s a bit holder. Channels in the sides fit Link-compatible accessories and a double organizer bin comes with it. Here are a few more highlights:

  • IP65 rating (lid seals with a gasket)
  • Integrated tie down anchor points
  • Padlock hole
  • Includes double organizer bin
  • Made in the USA with global materials

Ryobi Link Medium Tool Box

The Ryobi LInk medium tools box is very similar to the design of the rolling tool box with an integrated bit holder in the lid, Link accessory compatible channels, a gasket around the lid, and included double organizer bin. It has the same opening dimensions and is 7 inches deep.

Aside from the physical changes, one big difference is the load capacity is 80 pounds.

  • IP65 rating
  • Padlock hole
  • Compatible with Ryobi Link wall storage rails
  • Includes double organizer bin
  • Made in the USA with global materials

Ryobi Link Standard Tool Box

The standard tool box follows suit with just a couple of changes. First, it’s 3 7/8 inches deep. The other big change is the interior loses the Link accessory channels. Instead, it has recesses that fit corner feet on the organizer bins to help secure them.

The downside is the lid doesn’t push against them enough to keep them from shifting if you carry the box upright by its handle. The bit holder and center molding also prevent you from closing the lid if you have an organizer in the middle, so plan to keep those towards the sides.

Going down in size means a drop in capacity as well. Plan on carrying up to 50 pounds of gear in this one.

  • IP65 rating (lid seals with a gasket)
  • Padlock hole
  • Compatible with Ryobi Link wall storage rails
  • Includes double and single organizer bins
  • Made in the USA with global materials
