Wet/dry vacuums aren’t particularly complicated machines, but the little details can make a big difference once they become part of your regular routine. For us, the Vacmaster Beast 10-gallon Wet/Dry Vacuum checks all of the right boxes for a corded vacuum. The bigger question is whether those features actually make a meaningful difference for Pros and serious DIYers. Let’s find out.

Suction Power

At the heart of this vac is a 12-amp motor rated at 6.5 peak horsepower. Vacmaster clocks the air volume at 100 CFM with the suction power rated at 72 IOW (inches of water). With those numbers, this vac sits at the forefront of the category for power, especially in the corded realm.

The 1 7/8-inch hose is also a little different from the typical 2 1/2-inch hoses commonly found on larger shop vacs. The smaller diameter makes the hose easier to handle and well-suited for dust collection. With that said, larger material may cause a clog from time to time, especially if you’re dealing with wood chips or other troublesome debris.

During our hands-on time with this vac, it easily collected smaller sawdust and debris without issue, but as expected, larger wood chips from our 2 9/16-inch self-feed bit caused some issues. This forced us to remove the hose and unclog it manually. Now, this task has been a hurdle for larger 2 1/2-inch vacuum hoses before, so it’s not really a major surprise.

While these numbers position this vacuum well for general cleanup tasks, Vacmaster set the bar a bit higher for the Beast. It has more than enough suction power to handle the usual mix of sawdust, wood chips, dirt, drywall debris, and workshop messes without needing to step up to a substantially larger vacuum. However, its real trick is how it handles water.

Wet Cleanup

Despite all the attention given to filtration and dust collection (more on this later), this is still a wet/dry vacuum… and that’s where things get interesting.

Vacmaster’s FLT+ filter handles both wet and dry pickup, eliminating the need to remove the filter between those jobs. That makes this vac particularly convenient for garages and workshops where you’re just as likely to pick up a puddle as a pile of sawdust. It’s hard to overstate the convenience factor, but Vacmaster solved a real problem with this design, and that deserves some serious recognition.

To get a feel for how this vac handles wet messes, I filled a 5-gallon bucket with water and timed how long it takes for the Beast to empty it. On this go-around, the Beast took 1 minute and 19 seconds to drain the bucket. This is significantly slower than what we’ve observed from Ridgid and DeWalt, but we’re also dealing with a smaller hose and a lower CFM rating.

With that said, the advantage of being able to seamlessly transition from dry to wet cleanup without removing the filter cannot be overstated. I’ll happily make that tradeoff any day of the week.

Blower Function

Like most full-size wet/dry vacuums, the 10-gallon Beast pulls double duty as a blower. It’s a useful secondary function when you need to clear sawdust from a workbench, blow debris out of a vehicle, or clean up around your workspace.

It’s certainly not a replacement for a dedicated blower, but that’s not really the point. The advantage here is having another way to use a tool that’s already sitting in your shop. When you’re finished vacuuming, you can switch over to blower duty instead of reaching for another machine.

I also appreciate that Vacmaster doesn’t try to make this feature more complicated than it needs to be. The vacuum easily converts to blower operation, giving you a convenient option for light cleanup jobs where a dedicated blower would be overkill.

Synchro Remote Activation

One of the more unique features on this vacuum is the Synchro Remote Activation fob. Now, remote dust collection isn’t new to the industry, but Vacmaster took a different approach to the issue. Rather than connecting to the tool via Bluetooth, the fob senses the tool’s vibration through the vacuum hose upon activation and automatically kicks on the vacuum within 2.5 seconds.

This does two things. First, it saves you a trip back and forth to the vacuum, and second, it ensures a cleaner jobsite. If you’re frequently working indoors or simply want to keep your area clean, this is a major plus.

I found this setup was incredibly useful here at our shop. The vac kicked on within seconds of me pulling the trigger on one of our circular saws, capturing the majority of the dust and leaving a nice, clean work area behind.

Size and Mobility

The 10-gallon tank strikes a nice middle ground for a Pro-grade shop vac. It’s large enough to handle substantial cleanup jobs without requiring constant emptying, but the vacuum doesn’t take up as much space as some of the larger 12- and 16-gallon models.

At 19.42 pounds, the VJN1012PF is also relatively manageable for its class. That matters when you’re moving it around a workshop or loading it into a vehicle. Of course, like most shop vacs, its casters are better suited to smooth shop and garage floors than rough outdoor surfaces.

Hose and Accessory Management

Vacmaster does a good job of addressing one of my biggest complaints with wet/dry vacuums: where to put everything when you’re finished using them.

The VJN1012PF includes onboard hose, cord, and accessory storage, along with a magnetic tray on top of the powerhead for holding small hardware such as screws and bolts. This design solves an age-old issue for vacuums and makes it easy to keep track of your accessories between uses.

The 7-foot locking EVA hose is also kink-resistant, and the SecureLock system keeps the hose and nozzles connected more securely than the loose friction-fit accessories found on some entry-level vacuums. Interestingly, it reminds me of Ridgid’s Tug-A-Long system, ensuring a secure hold as you move about the jobsite.

Filter Lift Technology Filter Cleaning

The standout feature here is Vacmaster’s FLT+ Filter Lift Technology.

Traditional wet/dry vacs typically suspend a cylindrical paper cartridge filter inside the tank. As debris accumulates, that filter can is increasingly exposed to dust and debris, which will eventually restrict airflow. Vacmaster instead moves its flat filter outside the collection tank.

That creates a couple of practical advantages.

First, more of the container’s physical volume remains available for dust and debris. Second, the filter isn’t sitting in the same environment as the material you’re collecting. Vacmaster says this helps reduce clogging and allows the vacuum to maintain suction longer than traditional designs.

It’s an interesting solution to one of the biggest annoyances with shop vacs: having to stop what you’re doing because the filter is loaded with dust. Having had personal experience with this issue, I can attest to the frustration.

The system also uses a single filter for wet and dry pickup, so you don’t have to worry about filters when moving between cleanup jobs. That’s a surprisingly useful convenience for anyone who uses a wet/dry vac for more than the occasional cleanup job.

Vacmaster takes its filtration system a step further with a self-cleaning function and an LED filter-status display.

The LED display provides real-time feedback on airflow efficiency, indicating when the filter needs immediate attention. When debris builds up, the self-cleaning function helps clear the filter without requiring you to reach into the tank and manually knock dust off it.

For folks who regularly deal with fine dust, that’s a feature worth paying attention to.

It’s easy to overlook filtration when comparing shop vacs because CFM and water lift are much easier numbers to put on a spec sheet. However, in the real world, maintaining airflow can be just as important as how much suction the motor produces when everything is clean.

For this, we have to give Vacmaster two massive thumbs up!

Should You Buy It?

The Vacmaster Professional Beast Series FLT+ 10-Gallon Wet/Dry Vacuum takes a familiar category and addresses several of the common pain points that come with shop vacs.

Its impressive airflow and water lift numbers give it a solid foundation for general cleanup tasks, while the FLT+ filtration system is arguably the most interesting part of the package. Moving the filter outside the tank, combining wet and dry filtration, and adding a self-cleaning function all help reduce maintenance between jobs.

On top of that, the Synchro system is another worthwhile addition for woodworkers, remodelers, and other Pros who regularly connect a vacuum to their tools. Moreover, the onboard storage, locking accessories, magnetic hardware tray, and 27 feet of total cleaning reach are just icing on the cake.

There are some tradeoffs, though. The 1 7/8-inch hose isn’t my first choice for removing large debris, and the $199.99 price puts this vacuum above many popular shop vacs. You’re also paying for features that won’t matter as much if all you need is a vacuum for occasional garage cleanup. With that said, you do get a 5-year limited warranty, which is a strong selling point for Pros.

For Pros and serious DIYers who use a wet/dry vacuum frequently, though, I think the FLT+ system makes a compelling case for itself. It isn’t simply trying to win the spec-sheet horsepower contest. Rather, Vacmaster focuses on keeping the vacuum productive, organized, and easier to maintain.
