We got the chance to check out the Makita booth at the 2018 World Of Concrete show in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s always interesting to see what the company is up to, and this show was no different. This year, we spent some time to reflect on Makita battery technology.

For those of you not in the know, Makita made the bold move to use an 18V X2 platform rather than separating a standalone 36V battery. Many people questioned why at the beginning. However, as battery technology has progressed, it’s clear Makita has been ahead of the curve.

Makita 18V X2 LXT Cordless Tools: Why Two Batteries?

This Makita battery technology has been available for a while now, but for those of you who remain cynically tied to your corded tools, Makita’s 36V cordless system makes a pretty compelling case for cutting that cord. With new 10″ miter saws, 7″ grinders, SDS-Max rotary hammers, and dust extractors on the market, Makita’s 36V platform is proving that it can power the tougher tools as well, often better than a cord will. And because it uses two 18V batteries, users already using Makita’s 18V system won’t need to reinvest into a brand new platform to stick with the brand.
