The Craftsman 20V 3-inch cut-off tool can rip through a variety of materials such as metal, drywall, fiber cement, plastic, tile, and even stone. Its brushless motor and variable speed trigger produce a no-load speed of 20,000 RPMs. Since this tool is mainly designed for cutting thinner material, it only has a 3/4-inch max cutting depth. With that said, that’s more than enough to handle many of the materials I’ve already mentioned.
What’s interesting is that it features a forward and reverse mode, which would be unusual for a circular saw, but actually serves a very useful purpose with this cut-off tool. This gives you the ability to direct sparks and debris in the most convenient direction. It also allows you to clear debris, reduces the possibility of a kickback, and increases control while cutting.

Ergonomics
Compared to some of the Craftsman V20 tools I’ve tested, the grip feels a little bit larger, but I think this helps you maintain better control of the tool. The grip is draped in a textured rubber overmold and the directional controls are very similar to a cordless drill. Something we did notice is that there’s no trigger safety. With that in mind, I’d recommend removing the battery while transporting the tool to prevent accidental trigger pulls.
Cut Depth Adjustment
As I mentioned earlier, this tool has a 3/4-inch max cut depth. To adjust the shoe, simply loosen the wingnut on the rear of the shoe and slide it to the appropriate depth. Keep in mind, there aren’t any depth markings, so if precision is key, you’ll need to keep a measuring tape on hand.
