Best New Tools Announced for Winter 2025

Milwaukee M12 Fuel Ratchets

Milwaukee’s three new M12 Fuel cordless ratchets blend high torque levels and fast speeds, without the usual power trade-offs associated with cordless tools. They feature brushless motors, boosting the performance up to 45 ft-lbs and 550 RPM on the 1/4-inch model (3052), 70 ft-lbs and 400 RPM on the 3/8-inch model (3053), and 80 ft-lbs and 300 RPM on the 1/2-inch model (3054).

Perhaps their most intriguing feature is the interchangeable trigger cap system, which allows you to choose between a button or paddle-style trigger, depending on your work preference. These models are also equipped with the most compact head and body profiles in their class, allowing technicians to more easily reach into tight engine bays or undercarriage sections.

Other features include an ergonomic grip, an LED light, and an oversized forward/reverse switch. Together, these upgrades demonstrate Milwaukee’s commitment to addressing common frustrations, enabling you to work more efficiently and comfortably.

Ryobi 40V HP Brushless 21-inch Self-Propelled All-Wheel-Drive Multi-Blade Mower

A couple of months ago, Ryobi announced the addition of several new OPE items to the 40V battery system, including 5 lawn mower models. The flagship model in this launch is the 21-inch Self-Propelled All-Wheel-Drive Multi-Blade Mower. This model implements Ryobi’s well-known Cross-Cut multi-blade system, which utilizes two cutting blades to achieve a better cut and even blade dispersal.

The RY40HPLM03K2 has a gas equivalence of 196cc, which is significantly more powerful than the 140cc โ€“ 160cc engines most residential models have. Using both kitted 6.0Ah batteries in the two active battery ports, Ryobi estimates up to 75 minutes of runtime per charge. This makes it ideal for residential lawns up to 3/4 of an acre.

Bosch 18V 23-Gauge Brushless Pin Nailer

Earlier this year, Bosch released a brand new lineup of Pro-focused cordless 18V nailers and staplers. The only omission to this group was a 23-gauge pin nailerโ€ฆuntil now! The Bosch GNH18V-35N 23-gauge Pin Nailer is ideal for finish trim and delicate wood veneers. It holds up to 110 23-gauge nails, ranging in size from 5/8-inch to 1 3/8 inches.

For safety, Bosch omitted a thumb safety, instead opting for a nose safety feature that we haven’t seen in other pin nailers. Similar to a cordless framing or finish nailer, the GNH18V-35N doesn’t fire unless the nose is pressed against your work surface, adding an extra layer of security.

During our hands-on testing, this tool’s brushless motor and optimized coil spring system combined to deliver consistent results in both hard and soft woods. For carpenters and woodworkers looking for a dependable 23-gauge solution, Boschโ€™s GNH18V-35N is a solid addition to the toolbox.

Festool Granat PROfile Precision Sanding Abrasives

Shifting things over to the accessory front, Festool released a new line of abrasives compatible with power sanders. The Festool Granat PROfile sanding pads feature a 1/2-inch Polyurethane foam backing that adapts to curves and contours in your workpiece. This results in a smooth, even finish on irregular surfaces that’s much easier to attain than with standard hand sanding methods.

Available in three different grits and a variety of shapes and sizes, there’s one for every level of material removal. They’re more specialized accessories than standard sanding discs, which is reflected in the price. However, if you’re a remodeler or restorer who frequently sands more complex projects, the Granat PROfile sanding discs may be worth the price trade-off for an easier sanding experience.

Price: $20 – $32 (packs of 10)

Hilti ProKit Modular Tool Storage Boxes and Cart

While Hilti’s ProKit storage system was released too late to be included in our Best Tool Boxes showdown, Hilti certainly brought the heat with the initial launch in October. The ProKit pieces feature a durable modular design, easy nesting and interlinking, and auto-latching lidsโ€”all convenient features for Pros on the job.

Here’s how the current Hilti ProKit lineup is stacked:

  • ProKit Trolley: Fully removable trolley with durable rubber wheels to transport your ProKit build-out.
  • Full-Size Organizer: Includes 11 removable compartments to hold a variety of accessories and fasteners.
  • Medium Case: Equipped with two plastic dividers to segment your space and prevent tools from shifting.
  • Large Case: Ample room for larger tools with a removable divider to prevent tool diversion.
  • XL Case: Interlaces with the Trolley to provide a sturdy ProKit base with plenty of interior storage.

Skil 8 1/4-inch Compact Table Saw

A few months back, Skil released two new 8 1/4-inch table saws. Both are almost identical in design, although one has a 13A motor and the other has a 15A motor. The 13A model is exclusive to Walmart and is likely targeting DIY enthusiasts who shop there, though both models share the same $279 price point.

Both saws sport an 8 1/4-inch blade that spins at up to 5000 RPM. This blade size gives you a cut capacity of up to 2 1/2 inches at 0ยฐ and 1 3/4 inches at 45ยฐ. With a rip capacity of 12 inches to the left and 24.5 inches to the right, you can also rip 4×8 sheet goods. All said and done, either model is a good consideration for light- to medium-duty DIY or remodeling projects for value-conscious users.

Price: $279

Ridgid 18V Stud and Joist Drill

A few years back, Ridgid released a cordless stud and joist drill attachment for their MegaMax multi-tool, but now the brand has a dedicated stud and joist drill on the 18V system. The R864002 sports a 2-speed brushless motor that delivers up to 1400 RPM on high and 450 RPM on low.

During our testing, it handled larger bits, even driving our 2 9/16-inch self-feed bit through PT 2x lumber in high gear. Ridgid also equipped it with a Kickback Protech anti-kickback technology for added safety.

On top of that, itโ€™s very well-balanced, and the overall design feels very rugged and sturdy. This drill has all the power that Pros demand, and a feature set that makes it competitive in the marketplace, especially for existing Ridgid 18V users.

John Deere EGO Z370RS Electric ZTrak Zero-Turn Mower

While most of John Deere’s OPE roster is gas-powered, the brand joined forces with EGO to create the Z370RS Electric ZTrak zero-turn mower, which is powered by 56V Power+ batteries. This model is the first John Deere electric mower to employ removable batteries, and you can use the included batteries to power other EGO lawn care tools.

The Z370RS features a 42-inch mowing deck, and with the six kitted EGO batteries (2x 10.0Ah, 4x 6.0Ah), you can mow up to 1.25 acres per charge. This runtime is ideal for residential mowing applications, particularly for those with lawns over half an acre. If you’re on EGO’s 56V system for the rest of your lawn care, this ZT will help you ditch the gas can for good.

Kreg Rebel 20V Ionic Drive Pocket-Hole Joiner

Kreg recently released a new suite of 20V tools geared toward the woodworking industry, including the Ionic Drive Pocket Hole Joiner. This unique, specialized tool features a brushless motor that spins the bit up to 2800 RPMโ€”significantly faster than most cordless drills. The single-speed design supports its single function: drilling pocket holes into your workpiece.

Kreg has been making pocket hole jigs for quite some time, so the real benefit of this tool is taking the genius of their existing pocket hole tools and incorporating an integrated drill. After some hands-on time with the tool, itโ€™s easy to see why this could be an appealing option for serious woodworkers. It saves time and allows for confident drilling with fewer tools to manage while you work.

Metabo HPT 10-inch Single-Bevel Compound Miter Saw

There’s a lot to like about the Metabo HPT second-generation corded 10-inch Single-Bevel Compound Miter Saw, which isn’t surprising given its similarity to the previous iteration. However, itโ€™s clear that Metabo HPT isnโ€™t trying to reinvent the wheel, but rather theyโ€™re just ironing out the rough edges and refining some design features.

To improve this saw’s user experience, the design team included an easy-to-reach adjustment lever, reverse-threaded adjustment knob, and XAct LED shadow cut line for accurate cuts. Although it has some limitations, like the lack of rails and limited capacity, the $169 price point and 5-year warranty make up for it for those seeking a capable value-focused model.
